Portal 2
Game » consists of 20 releases. Released Apr 19, 2011
Portal 2 is the sequel to the acclaimed first-person puzzle game, carrying forward its love of mind-bending problems and its reckless disregard for the space-time continuum.
Portal 2 to have cross platform coop!
" So this is going to be the first game to be able to do this? This will revolutionize online gaming! I think this will put confusion towards lan tournaments in the future. "I think Shadowrun did this but if you're speaking about a significant release then yes you're totally right.
I knew it ... thats the reason for the delay right there. And its a perfect game to do it too. Portal 2 is not competetive so you dont have to worry about artificially putting shackles on the PC gamer (like Shadowrun did). Love it ... I still think too many people dont get what steamworks for the PS3 really means for that crowd.
Because PS3 is a more open console for developers, thus Valve included steamworks support on the PS3 version. So it would seem the 360 version will NOT be the platform of choice for once. "Actually the PC was always the platform of choice for Valve games. Anyway, while this is an interesting development, I don't really have many friends on PSN so this feature won't be of much use to me.

" @EVO said:Part of it is that Sony's letting Valve actually implement steamworks on the PS3 (which is what's allowing the cross-platform co-op, if I'm reading the article right). The other part is that (last I checked) Sony is trying to make it easier to program for the PS3 (which, while still a nightmare to do, seems to have gotten somewhat easier)" Kinda funny how Valve did a complete 180 on the PS3. Not long ago they wouldn't even touch it, but now they're embracing it with open arms. "I guess it shows what can happen when you put forth the effort to learn to program for a new system. "
If two players are exactly the same skill level, and one is on the PC and the other on the console, the PC guy will win most of the time, due to mouse precision.
But this would not be a problem in Portal 2 because the players co-operate rather than compete (though I expect there may be a competitive mode).
Whoa! that's awesome!
Picking up the pc and ps3 version (for superior one / trophy love) and being able to play co-op on seperate screens with the mrs?! I love valve.
I really hope this comes true, if they are able to get this level of integration through steam works on the ps3, who knows what other things they could do!
I imagine there is some behind the scenes reason for no 360 cross-co-op as well, but I think the Playstation Move would work something like this:
Tempting, but most of my friends play on the 360. I might get both versions like I did with Resident Evil 5, depending if I know people on the PS3/PC that get it.
Yes! You're right, it would be really cool if you've got only one PC at home and a PS3." Whoa! that's awesome! I thought about cross platform gaming a lot and it could be great for a number of games, but not for competitive gaming. Well, maybe if they would add mouse + keyboard support for the PS3 (like Eagle Eye seems to do, haven't tried it) versions of games, otherwise it would just be unfair in first and third person shooters.
For the life of my i don't know why they didnt include it! If there was one console game that was going to be putting it to good use it's a god damn RTS!
That being said, the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 DID allow KB+M and in fact went as far as to allow a search filter when looking for online games to include servers that had KB+M enabled - meaning you could find purely gamepad - Purely KB+M or a mixture of both if you wanted! showing it actually is possible to try and add some kind of balance between the two!
It would probably be okay to have servers which allow mouse and keyboard for the PS3, but I'd imagine that most people who only play with gamepads would not enjoy playing competitive multiplayer against players with mouse and keyboard.
