What the..?
Did they feel that Prey had a big enough name that doing this instead of giving it a new name made sense?
Prey 2

Prey 2 Looks Great, Almost Nothing Like Prey
This got me interested. I was ready to write off Prey 2 before I even knew anything about it, but it sounds like it's going to be a lot more fleshed out and engaging than the first game.
so i looked at my gamertag and i have every single player achievement of prey.....I dont remember playing it at all. I remember playing king kong, but i didn't remember that i even played prey until i looked.
" @Marz said:if your talking bout the Omar, they were just heavily biomodified people to the point where they don't resemble a normal person anymore." are they trying to make Deus Ex with aliens? "Didn't Deus Ex already have aliens? I know Invisible Wars had them at least... "
" @Vodun said:Nah, there were actual "greys". Remember finding them in some form of science lab where there were being tests performed on 'em. Think they had telepathic attacks or some such, a real bitch to kill." @Marz said:if your talking bout the Omar, they were just heavily biomodified people to the point where they don't resemble a normal person anymore. well its reasuring that its nothing like the first game '' prey'' ... but what i don't get is...
why would you take a name with a bad reputation and then make a sequal .... if it is THAT difrent then why not call it something else
there is nothing to gain from building onto the name ''prey''
''prey'' is something you do not talk about ... annyone who's played it would agree
I guess I would prefer it if the game was named something different. I mean, Prey 2 implies connections to Prey 1, but those connections seem pretty slim and downright forced at spots. As a fan of the original Prey all these articles that say this is a totally different game in a different setting, different gameplay, different protagonist and I wonder why is this called Prey 2.
If you're making a sequel to something, I would think that you're catering to your pre-established fan base first. This looks like it's not going to do that like at all. And no, I also don't like the fact that pretty mush every Final Fantasy game has nothing in common with each other anymore.
Tommy's story was wrapped up in the first Prey, but... well not spoiling the ending, but it made me really want to get Prey 2. These articles make it sound like they're going to shoehorn Tommy into this just because they have to. "Oh, he'll be there... somewhere... eventually...".
Sounds cool. I wonder how it will compare to Deus Ex Human Revolution because I'm getting the same vib from Brad's write-up.
Crazy, I wouldn't have expected this direction.
I don't know what to make of this. As a pretty big prey fan I was hugely excited at the announcement of Prey 2. Reading this kind of dissapoints me. It does sound like it could be a great game but at the same time I was hoping for an actual sequel to Prey as there was a bit of a cliff hanger at the end that I figured would be the basis for a new Prey game. I'm hoping that it gets explained when we come across Tommy in Prey 2.
What does having the same initial invasion contribute to the story at all? Or having Tommy appear for that matter. Come to think of it, this game seems more like a Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter sequel than anything to do with Prey. Haha.
Stupid name. Cool looking game.
I actually loved the first Prey. The concept of Prey 2 meshed with scifi narrative sandbox style of gameplay has me intrigued. Looking forward to this and possible Blade Runner sequels.
" So they're using the name for Marketing only. Sounds pretty cool, but have some balls and start a new IP. "yea wtf? why make a game so unrelated to the game its supposed to be representing, when you could make a new series? having a tommy cameo would just be icing on the cake. still looks like a stellar game,, no matter what the name. Looking forward to more coverage of this.
Without the prey name and being a new IP this would be nothing but people saying "Mass Effect wannabe"
Actually it occurs to me they can flange this to the first Prey pretty well. Tommy's options were wide open, and it even makes sense you run into him. It also works for other reasons, including maturing the Prey universe beyond the origonal confining storyline, That they get away from the first Prey game is good, but II will miss the portals and the overtly body function fetish ship design. But that can be explained away with the fact that was reflective one or a few Alien races out of many, and that the technology was particular to them. Sphincters shitting on you and creatures running out of vagina's, just an evil alien ship design, happens every time you let these assholes draw a blueprint for a ship meant for processing and eating ppl. The whole Prey universe isn't like that, though obviously not all are angels, either. And that's why you need bounty hunters and even returning ppl. like Tommy whose dead old lady bitches at him from beyond the grave every time he looks at a Tartarus hottie or a Centauri galaxy 3 boober. Well, that part may become NPC. As for the ME2 shadow, IDK, I think there is room, look at how many games concern themselves with dragons or post apocalyptic societies, there's room, as long as it is well done. And there is hint of a good start even in that one trailer I have seen at GB.
Why are people mentioning Mass Effect? This is trying to avoid the constant corridor shooting of shit like that. Everything else (the various alien races and whatnot) is hardly native to Mass Effect.
Red Dead Redemption meets Blade Runner is all I need to know. I couldn't have cared less about a sequel to Prey until reading this so I'm totally hyped.
i read about this in PTOM and now Mr. Shoemaker's post makes me want to play it even more. im looking forward to this one.
