The VGCW people have lone since decided they wouldn't be able to switch to 2K16, right? I tried looking on their forum, but I'm about a month and a half behind on past broadcasts, and I bailed out when I started seeing spoilers in forum avatars.

There are DS games that don't run at the screens' native resolution, and a Nintendo flagship title is one of them?

If Wii remotes will work in the thing, then so will Classic Controllers connected to those remotes, so there's your REAL controller right there.
