If I got rid of the wrapping, I always have at least one old receipt or subway ticket in my pockets. I spit it into that and throw in the trash or keep it in my pocket until I find one.

I like it, I don't like it, I love it, I don't even know. I'm certainly glad I played it.

David Cage's narcissistic comments about how he is the sole saviour of video game storytelling are obviously terrible, but he seems to be an okay director. There are some awesome performances in this game. I was already on board the Ellen Page train, but holy shit man. Seeing her act her ass off through the different stages of Jodie's life is just my jam. I was a little confused about Willem Defoe's casting. I don't think I've ever seen him play a sympathetic or soft character. After seeing the ending, it makes a little more sense to me.

Talking about the ending, I thought that was some hot garbage right there. After meeting and killing Jodie's mother, everything fell apart pretty quickly. There were some hokey parts before that but the mission in China? Just like Fahrenheit, Beyond starts as this sweet and personal story before descending into world threatening madness. How often was the word "infraworld" muttered before the China mission? Two times? Then suddenly it's in every sentence. Did Cage watch the Midichlorians scene in Episode I and think it was genius?

And he doesn't seem to understand how romantic relationships work. Jay treats Jodie like shit, then warms up to her, but nothing actually romantic happens between them and then I get an option to kiss him?? Denieeed! Clayton is this insensitive dick the whole time, Jodie threatens to kill him at least twice, then he says that he loves her (what why?!) and the game wants me to believe that they have a relationship of ups and downs. I can't think of one scene that redeems him. Fuck that guy! And fuck his stupid eye ball!

I chose to live alone and I like the idea of Jodie trying to live the life she was cheated out of but not being able to and then Ghostpocalypse.

The standouts for me were Homeless and almost everything with child Jodie. The birthday party also left a huge impression on me.

Oh yeah! The most important thing about this game: So many good hugs! When mopey child Jodie nagged her mom just to get a hug my heart broke so good. And I squeezed Mr. Bunny Gruff so tight. I'm glad she kept him all the way to the end.

People claiming that this is clickbait or that McShea is trolling are giving him too much credit. Everything I have seen of him suggests that he's just dumb. Plain old dumb. I'm not sure why he's allowed to write for Gamespot.

Combo? Isn't that a little redundant? When you poop it's impossible to not pee, right?

A question only magic can answer. TO THE TOILET!

If you peed just a bit before having to poop, you can poop without peeing.

Yeah ok, but in the fake screenshot the game gives her the option to pee, leading me to believe that she hasn't gone yet. If you made her pee then stand back up for the button prompts to reappear then poop, there still wouldn't be a reason to have pee, poop and combo there at the same time.

@tobbrobb:

It's optional and it defaults to black and white. You can probably get a more realistic look out of the game by not cranking it all the way up like I did in that screenshot but I'm with you. That black and white adds a lot of personality and atmosphere. I have seen some comments on the Steam forums of people hoping the developers won't water their vision down further by responding to stuff like this. Apparently they are going to implement easier ways for the player to find his bearings.

@abendlaender: Hey, I'm six weeks late. That's okay, right? Betrayer is on sale this week with one third off and I bought it because someone on the Steam forums was shouting the magic words "dark souls dark souls!" I had to wade through a lot of garbage to find any useful information on there.

I only played two hours of it but I'm really liking it so far. The game tosses you into its world without much explanation. You get a map that isn't showing your location and a compass at the top of the screen that I think you can disable in the menu. The first area is a just a linear path with some very light tutorializing and story set-up but after that it becomes a little more open. It's not that hard to find your way but it's still nice not to constantly get hit over the head with a mission marker.

The combat is mostly ranged weapons focused. There's a button for a quick melee attack but I'm yet to kill an enemy with it. So far it's been all bows and tomahawks for me. There are guns but they take ages to reload and make a lot of noise which is important because you're going to be sneaking a lot. Your character is very fragile. It takes maybe three or four arrows to kill you and I died every time an enemy got close. You lose all your money when you die but you can do a corpse run to recover it and that's the most dark soulsian it's been so far. I haven't found a good use for the money other than buying better weapons.

I interacted with two other characters. Most of the story is conveyed through letters and diary entries. After solving a "puzzle" I saw a dark, ghostly silhouette and I stopped playing right there.

"Come right here! We've got yer color and everything!"

The developers responded to the color criticism by putting a saturation slider in the menu. Now you can make it look like this:

I think the black and white looks spectacular. Important objects and enemies have a red glow.

@mb: I'm playing on hard and controller is fine. The shooting is Halo style with click stick to zoom but I rarely use it. I turned off the auto-aim for both guns and sword. It pulls the reticle to the center of the enemy every time you hit right trigger and it messes up my headshots. Swordplay is good. I always slice in the direction I intend to. Can't say the same thing for Magic though. You need to doubletap the stick in any direction and then pull one of the triggers to get out your spells. This would probably be much more reliable on a keyboard.

I have two 10% off coupons if you or anyone else wants to have them.
