I don't preorder anyway as I don't feel the obligation to buy games on launch day, sure I will if I want the game and it's convenient, but the world won't end if I have to buy it later, and probably cheaper. Most preorder items are usually cosmetics, or worse things that break the games difficulty curve. I have found that, at least in the UK, a good amount of the time you get most of the preorder stuff just by buying the game at your leisure. For example, I was able to buy the day one edition of Sunset Overdrive last Saturday, and get some other bonus stuff.

I had a lot of fun with Watch_Dogs, and I thought it was generally really harshly treated. I think the disparity on reception between it and Shadow of Mordor was really strange, and is an interesting example of how hype, or the lack of it, can radically alter the reception of a game.

Shadow of Mordor was just too easy, making most of its gameplay systems (including the Nemisis system, which I found to be really overhyped) just pointless. Sure, I could wait for this orc to be ambushed by a Caragor which he is weak to, but 96% of the time stabbing him with my dagger/sword works just as well. The only orc characteristics that mattered even in the endgame were the resistances, but that just produced a game of rock-paper-scissors where I already new he has chosen a stone. The story was incredibly shallow, pretty much coming down to going through the motions while waiting for the story bosses to turn up. Worse is the fact that pretty much all of the characters abruptly say peace and leave (unless I missed something there are some end game characters who just basically disappear), without much resolution. It just felt like half a game.

Titanfall was disappointing for me too, I never really liked the mechs so I just found it to be a mediocre CoD clone. I spent most of my time wishing you could turn the mechs off.

I use Kaspersky, sure it's subscription based, but it's pretty unobtrusive and I haven't had a virus. Also it's Russian so you know it's pretty legit.

I think my favourite ever ending was Dead Space 2, but I feel like I was a special case. I played through the game for the first time on hard. By the end I just couldn't handle the enemies any more, so the ending became just a desperate, struggling charge through an overwhelming force. It really hammered home the fact that Isaac was on his last legs, and it took ever ounce of effort just to get to the end. The story told by the gameplay began to overtake the actual story, partially by accident. I think it was just that moment where everything aligns, and the game comes together to become more than the sum of its parts.

I also really liked the ending of Mass Effect, starting with the Sovereign conversation, it really captured the feeling in being in the finale of a kick ass action movie. From driving the Mako through that worm hole, to shooting your way up the side of the citadel, to redeeming Saren at the end. The series could never match the first game, in terms of story. I also have to mention MGS3, for the reasons already discussed.

There is a simple, effective solution to this problem. Never preorder, and only buy games until they have been out a week or more.

I think we should all know by experience that Dan can do anything if he wants to.

@yesiamaduck: Huh, if anything was going to get it up on the store, it was me complaining about it, just to prove me wrong.

Anyway, hell yeah it's finally on PS+.
