@TechnoSyndrome: Nope. Dual audio as well as Dual subtitles.

This doesn't actually answer my question of if you can choose subtitles divorced from your choice of audio, I'm assuming the answer is no.

@retris: So here is the cool thing. You get the option of using the original Japanese voices (I recommend this) and the dub. But the cool thing is that you get to pick between what kind of subtitles you want to, whether you want the dub titles or the translated subtitles closer to the original script. They put a lot of work into that.

Do you actually get to choose the subtitle track? I thought it was just that the dub has subtitles to match the dub, and the Japanese has its own subtitle track that doesn't have to take as many liberties to fit the lip flaps.

I voted for Banjo but Perfect Dark could be cool too.

Fable was never good.

Good for Capcom. Sad to see some of the voice actors involved are kinda gross people. I'll still probably pick this up.

I doubt any of them are getting royalties on sales, that's not how the video game industry usually works.

From the GDC panel. Really great initial sales for a game like DMC, hitting the sales expectations Capcom originally had for the Ninja Theory reboot that was supposed to appeal to a wider audience before they scaled those back to 1.2 million. Hopefully this means it won't be another ten years until DMC6. DMC4, the current best selling game in the series, took two months to hit 2 million copies sold and went on to sell 3 million copies total, so DMC5 hitting 2 million in just two weeks is very promising.

I have never played a Devil May Cry (besides the original demo with Code Veronica). Is this one an okay jumping on point for a beginner?

The easy difficulty is pretty forgiving (it's literally labeled as being for people who've never played Devil May Cry before) which gives you plenty of room to actually learn the mechanics. The story probably won't make sense in spots if you aren't familiar with the lore and don't watch a recap of the story on YouTube (the in-game one is really abridged and I don't think gives you enough context), but as far as gameplay goes I think you can get the hang of things starting here. And don't feel ashamed of starting on easy, everyone has to start somewhere!

@humanity: That only happens if you die and you never hit a checkpoint, which are pretty plentiful in both 3 and 4.

I assume Dan will since he's actually a fan of those games and seems more interested in it than anyone else on staff

I never played DMC2 but I've seen LPs of the other games. What was the reason why everyone put it at the end of the timeline? Dante doesn't seem anything like his DMC4 version from what I can tell.

Capcom themselves said DMC4 took place between 1 and 2 in the lead-up to that game because they didn't want to have to acknowledge it in 4. Now they once again don't want to have to reference it in 5 so they put it back after 1 but before 2 so that 4 is the game immediately preceding 5, and not requiring them to talk about Dante escaping hell, Lucia, Arius, or anything else from that game.
