Couldn't have chosen a worst timing for the announcement of a carmagedon remake, sin ce the supreme court is actually about to rule on the legallity of selling M rated games to kids...
@Cynical_Gamer: no. I'm saying that by setting 3 types of review you're basicly starting a 1 to 3 stars rating system. And in that scenario 2 would be Rent it.
But in reallity for some people some of those games will be Must buy and Forget it for others. By equating a rating with a recommendation you're opening up a whole new can of worms.
Although Jeff actually did say to "maybe rent" Kane & Lynch in his last gamespot video review. Maybe that got him into trouble since publishers hate the game rental market almost as much as the used games market.
This is why review scores/stars should be done away with. Ratings should be more like Buy It, Rent It, or Forget it, etc..
That's just another type of score. A reviewer's opinion represented by one word instead of a number. You should just go by the reviewer's actual review. "Buy it, Rent it, Forget it" is worse. That's basically telling people what to do.
What Cynical said was basicly a 1-3 stars rating, only like MiniPato said, it's even worse because Buy it, Rent it, Forget it, just open reviewers up for even more criticism from the community.
I actually was surprised that the game didn't get higher ratings. It has currently 90 on metacritic and The Witcher got more than that.
And I'll bet you most people enjoy L.A. Noire more than the Witcher.
Yeah the majority is probably enjoying L.A. Noire more than Witcher 2. Partially because the install base for Noire is much larger as its being released on two major consoles. While The Witcher 2 is for the PC market, add on top of that its a European developed RPG, probably not as attractive for people as L.A. Noire is.
And while i don't think L.A. Noire looks like a bad game, the hype and marketing hasn't worked on me. Probably because i don't care for 40's America, i have no personal interest in that era at all, as i'm not an American. I just don't find it appealing.
But i am however knee deep in the best RPG i have played this year. Thats not to say Withcer 2 is a better game than L.A. Noire, its just personal preference, metascores aside (which are worth jack shit anyhow)
Metascores are shit, but the whole point of this topic is inflated ratings, so iI'd say it's relevant for the discussion at hand.
What I meant to say is that if you ask most people that played both games, I'll bet most will say they had more fun with LAN than with TW2. So in my book it's not just a matter of target audience or what platform you prefer.
I really don't get this jaded attitude towards DA, like they are REALLY milking it with 2 games in 3 years. That is an attitude that should be reserved for COD games and guitar hero (now finally dead thank god).
Maybe this time they will take their time developing it and it will be awesome.
