aye ... xp sucks ... there ... i said it ... crucify me
aegis_and_pred's forum posts
i do believe this is the definitive SPEC post ... ;)
"Quake 3. Amazing times on that game. I used to sneak downstairs in the middle of the night and play it ti' I had to go to school."
ROFL ... I'm glad I wasn't the only one that did this to play games. Think of it like this ... my room is in the attic ... my computer was in the basement ... I'd go MISSION IMPOSSIBLE style on that bitch all night just for a few hours of gaming. Oh man ... I'm such a nerd ... lol
dead serious ... the first PC game i ever played was MATH BLASTER! in elementary school ... it was there in those short little mini games of addition and subtraction goodness that I found out how much I loved PC games and also how much I sucked at math. I LOVED COMPUTER ROOM DAY but when it came time to print out the results on those old dot matrix printers ... eh ... not so much ... :p
but beyond that ... and into the actual games ... the first game I played that I really enjoyed was Doom. It scared me shitless and I remember I used to have this older friend that lived down the street. I would literally stalk him when he was home just so I could use his computer for an hour or two because my family was crap and didn't think we needed one. It was good times ... come to think of it ... I was probably really annoying. Sorry Eric ... where ever you are today!

"half life rocks, however i think crysis will bring a challenge to its status"
there's no way crysis will ever become as popular as half-life due to their wild disreguard for "the little guy" ... something that valve is very good at avoiding even with it's newest most shiny releases. :)
The reason for my post was not to state that PC gaming is in any way shape or form dying per say ... however look at us compared to PS3 / 360 releases. Almost every game that would have been released on PC exclusively and then ported to consoles is now done the other way around! Am I the only one that remembers a time when us PC gamers got our shot FIRST and then everyone else got the "special edition bonus content"? Come on guys ... coffee is on ... piracy is mainly to blame for this shifting trend in gaming. You're all posting these ignorant posts defending why you pirate games, yet not a single one of you lists a legitimate reason.
"I hate DRM / Secure Rom"
That's nice ... I hate Coca-Cola ... I choose not to purchase or drink Coca-Cola because I feel that it sucks. I don't run down to the store and steal cases of coke because it pisses me off they use a secure cap to prevent people from poisoning me on their soda bottles. That's stupid*... and so is your argument. The software they use is put there mainly to assure that at least a FEW people can't hack their games ... and beyond a few initial issues that were drummed up by piracy groups,THERE HAVE BEEN NO MAJOR ISSUES WITH SECURE ROM OR ANY DRM FOR THAT MATTER SINCE THEY BEGAN USING IT FOR PC GAMES!!!!!! Stop listening to idiots on forums that claim SecureRom ate their discs, or that guy who can't run a game, so he blames DRM. "OMG but solitaire runs so smooth! Why the fuck won't Bioshock load?! What is this MYSTERY software it asks me to install? Secure Rom?!?!? OMG it must be preventing me from playing my games! I'd better post this on a forum because it's really important!" ... just stop.
"Piracy is going to happen no matter what"
Wow ... think about that statement for a quick second. That's basically like saying "Everyone else is doing it!" ... what are we .. 12? Do I REALLY have to bring out the classic argument "If all your friends jumped off a bridge ..."? Sure that jump might land you in a bunch of cool free content, but you forget about the 50 or so people you kicked in the face on the way down. Now THAT'S the American way ... way to go! Quit being adolescent and think about someone else other than yourself for a second and then use that iota of remorse you might feel to click the cancel button on those 12 torrents you've got going.
"I've got no money! I can't AFFORD to pay for games!"
THEN YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE SPENT MONEY ON A COMPUTER CAPABLE OF PLAYING GAMES IN THE FIRST PLACE! And if you're so broke ... what the hell are you doing sitting around playing videos games all day for anyways? That would be the LAST thing on my mind if I really was that strapped for cash! I'm no Mr. Money Bags but if I really want something ... I do this cool thing called SAVING and ANTICIPATING EXPENSES which seems to be a huge concept to people that pose this argument. Money is not something that is meant to be spent on things you buy on a whim ... you plan for what is coming ... even if it's a week in advance so you know what you can afford. I know it's REAL hard to not touch that money for a whole day ... those Doritos are looking AMAZING ... i know ... but chill out honcho ... games > calories. And you just might feel a little better about yourself in the end ...

"gladestone said:"Predasus said:If being "hardcore" means having all the latest crap whether you feel the need for it or not then maybe not all of us want to be hardcore, maybe not everyone loves Crysis just because it's shiny, maybe some people see that most devs aren't even utilizing DX10 when DX10.1 and DX11 are already out, maybe some people don't feel the difference between DX9 and DX10 is enough reason to switch to Vista, maybe some people have realized the irony in Microsoft pushing out new versions of DX for PC while forcing developers to stick with DX9 thanks to 360's outdated hardware, and maybe not all of us are graphics whores."It's amazing the amount of so-called "hardcore" PC gamers that haven't made the switch to vista because they don't want to spend the cash. If you were truly hardcore this type of thing wouldn't even be an issue, yet most people define themselves by their ability to not give microsoft or graphics card companies any more of their "hard earned money". Look ... idiots ... being HARDCORE means spending WAY too much money on a rig that rocks face for the moment and milking it into oblivion just so you can do it all over again in 3 - 4 years. It's ALWAYS been this way and it ALWAYS will be until the age of the heterogeneous computer ... which ... by the way ... is what DirectX 11 is trying to move us towards!Predasus im with you buddy all the way..Thats why Crysis sales hurt..People want the latest an greatest in graphics..Yet they are afraid to pay for it arent they...How ever that said..What they dont realise is this..You can buy a 200 dollar card an upgrade..With dx10 graphics its affordable..The card will last 5 years...My dx10 card the 8800 gtx has lasted 3 years already...It still has life in her..People just will complain about any thing..If they just realised that a dx10 card, is cheaper than a console in itself..They will realise they can upgrade for the price of a console..
So please ... keep bitching about having to shell out cash to play your favorite games at the highest settings. Whaa whaa whaa ... evil corporations ... whaa whaa whaa ... too much money ... whaa whaa whaa. I'll be the guy in the back enjoying Crysis at 1920x1200 with everything on very high the way a real "hardcore" pc gamer should.
And just PLEASE ... wake up! XP is inferior to Vista in SO MANY ways if you would just realize how to properly build a system for it! I'm taking PSTs now ... friend requests ... whatever. If you need help building a system, let me know and I'll gladly throw some stuff together to let you know what's up. But enough dogging on Vista unless you have a legit reason to do so. And legit doesn't mean "oh i downloaded a hacked copy and it sucked!" ... lol"
Thats right people you can have a upgraded pc..For less than what your paying for that ps3 an xbox...Just need to know what your doing is all...

I smell a console owner ...
I said legit reasons. And sir ... I am not a graphics whore ... I just enjoy having things run properly. I have a standard of operation for my computer that is set above the average user. But this is all besides the point. Looking at the development of recent games ... 9 / 10 games on my computer right now can be run in both Dx9 and Dx10 mode ... one is a console release ... that came out on ... GASP! ... the 360?!?!?!?! (devil may cry 4 anyone?) I do agree however that console games are gimping us PC users in a serious way, but most all recent Games for Windows releases can be played in Dx10 mode which is why they created the Games for Windows marketing spin in the first place.
I'm wondering how you can say Dx11 is coming too soon when maybe Dx11 is going to bring more of what developers want to the table? het-ero-gene-ous ... big word I know ... even I had to look up the spelling ... but it means AWESOME things for PC gaming if they do it right and Dx11 is a step in that direction! Don't get mad at microsoft for finally seeing the f'in LIGHT and creating a product that game developers actually WANT! I've seen more interviews with devs talking about the future of PC games and a lot of them talk about a heterogeneous computer ... it is the future. Go read some websites or something ... or whatever ... keep playing Cake Builder Pro Elite 4 or whatever the hell it is you enjoy doing ...

metal gear 4
gta4 (which is coming thank GOD)
Fable 2 (will probably make it to PC just like the original did)
Little Big Planet (who doesn't love making crap with physics? ... garry's mod anyone?)
ANY of the new Final Fantasy games (i'm no huge fan of theirs or anything, but where is the active combat love on the PC?)
Killzone 2 (which I wouldn't doubt is coming)
Resident Evil 5 (RE4 came to PC in some diluded form ... why not this one?)
ANY of the next Devil May Cry games (DMC4 for PC is AMAZING)
The Force Unleashed (just another sign of companies being fed up with PC piracy)
ROCK BAND 1/2!!!!! ... so improbable ... but I would hella buy rock band for my PC ... :D
I'm hella pumped for Prince of Persia on the PC and can't wait for the next Assassins Creed. ;)
well i have been thinking about similar types of things VACkillers ... it's a tough thing to think about because 99% of it would just be turned around as an excuse for MORE piracy. I honestly wouldn't mind buying all of my games online and just skipping the store but that being a long ways off, I don't really see an immediate fix to the piracy problem. I've always liked the idea of a small USB device that came with the game that when inserted would allow the computer to play the game, but that could begin a whole wave of hardware issues.
It really is a tough nut to crack. Basically what it's really going to take is for people to just STOP pirating ... which isn't going to happen if they don't see the impact they're having on the industry they claim to support.
