The Bane of My Existance

Many users of Giant Bomb decry the existance of what we know as Gamestop, and often for good reason. The employees have been known to be either rude or unhelpful, games kept in their care have been reportedly kept in less than ideal conditions (both those put on display and those kept in the back room), and they have been oft maligned for their "pushy" pre-order strategy. However, none of these things really make me personally all that angry. The thing that they do to absolutely kill me, is put those little yellow stickers on their games.

They are fine when they are fresh. Get a game within a month of the "used" barcode sticker being added and you won't have a tough time getting it off. Hell, get the game within 6 months of being applied and chances are with a little bit of nail use that sucker is coming off with little to no sign that it was ever there.

But god help you if you are buying a real classic, like I did the other day on Ebay. I already had Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic for my 360 and am a big fan of Bioware ever since Mass Effect, so I figured there wasn't much harm in securing my own copy of KOTOR 2. The sale was easy, and the game came quickly, and i don't really blame the seller for the sticker, as it was something they didn't really care about so much.

Unfortunately, It looks like the game may have been bought used only days after the original release in 2004 for how crusty and icky the stickers were. Every single one of them (there were a total of five, some on top of eachother) was so old that even carefully peeling from the corner didn't manage to keep the thing intact. The worst part was that the spine sticker, instead of being attached to the plastic casing, was instead adhered to the box art itself. It took a good 30 minutes and the pointy end of a nail filer to remove it, and I was fortunate to get that particular piece off with almost no visible damage, but the back and front sticker areas were not so lucky. There is still residue in certain sensitive areas of the box, and a few areas are a bit damaged from my removal methods.

Of course, this isn't the first time i've had to deal with removing the damn stickers. In fact, the process for Ninja Gaiden Black was even worse, and dont get me started on the condition i got Skies of Arcadia Legends in. I was lucky when i worked at Gamestop that I didn't often work on the days we went through the weeks used games and removed the stickers from games that had price drops (to tell you the truth, most of the time we just put a new sticker over the old one, because often time it was just awful.

GAMESTOP: Figure out a better way to do this. I remember how big a pain in the ass it was to apply those stickers when I worked there for a few months, and they are even less fun to remove them. Instead of applying a new barcode, perhaps you could just store the games existing barcode in your database, with the exception of games given to you without a box. And for god sakes, explicitly tell your employees not to attach the stickers to the box art itself.

Bonus Points: As of today, the Star Wars (just obtained KOTOR 2 to go with KOTOR and Battlefront 1) series is the most prevalent in my XBOX (original) collection, and the Resident Evil (just obtained 0 and 1 to go with 2 and 4) franchise is the most prevelant in my Gamecube collection.

Super Smash Brothers 4 Part 48: Final Smashes: Nintendo

For parts 1-47 click here
Well, i've already done pages for each franchise, but i neglected to go into many details. Why? because i can do those later, and later is now!
The other reason i have waited is because Final Smash ideas can very quite a lot from person to person, meaning that i want a lot of feedback on this part.

Mario
Mario: Mario Finale
Same as what already exists. He shoots a pair of intersecting fireballs across the screen. The NSMB Mega mushroom might be fun too
Luigi: Super opponent head-stomp
I thought what Luigi did for Brawl was too wierd. As such, i picked something i feel is more appropriate to the character. He continually bounces around the arena, and hitting an opponent means likely doom, but the user has to be careful not to miss the platforms...
Peach: Peach Blossom
Same as Brawl. She puts everyone to sleep talking about the new shoes she bought at koopa-mart and what Daisy was getting on the side, then eats a bunch of peaches and kills people
Bowser: Giga-Bowser
Same as Brawl. Bowser get's really big and spiny and starts stomping around the arena. I wonder how his son's would work.

The Legend of Zelda
Link: Full Triforce
I dont think that Links move in Brawl was epic enough, so i'm thinking, how about a final smash that allows Link to use the entirety of the Tri-Force? I have no idea what it would look like, but it would assuredly be awesome
Zelda:  Light Arrow
It's too perfect.
Ganondorf: Ganon
Same as Brawl. It fits with him and isn't over or underpowered.
Vaati: Transformation
Vaati would obviously transform into his gigantic eye form, which i have to say, would be bad-ass in 3-d motion

Metroid
Samus: Ship Flyover
I'd be satisfyed with her mega charge beam too, but the Ship Flyover makes more sense. also, maybe Phazon powers?
Ridley: Meta Ridley
This Final Smash would make Ridley hit harder and be much harder to bring down. Watching him melt in lava as a cutscene would be great

Starfox
Fox: Great Fox Laser
There would be some complications since the Great Fox is also a level in SSB, but it'd be a great Final Smash
Falco: Arwing Support
Peppy and Slippy fly down to give Falco some cover fire
Wolf: Landmaster
Because only one of these characters should use the Landmaster
Krystal: Staff ground pound
Krystal shatters the ground with an epic jump and fall

F-Zero
Falcon: Blue Falcon
Same as brawl. That was an epic move. also, consider a game breaking Falcon Punch.

Pokemon
Pikachu: Volt Tackle
I didn't like this one much, but i can't think of many good alternatives either
Mewtwo: Mind Control
Fly out of reach and control another player, either using him to attack other players or just dropping him off the edge.
Lucario: Aura Storm
Same as Brawl, though maybe slightly more powerful
Pokemon Trainer: Triple Finish
What are you going to do with a character that has such variety?

Kirby
Kirby: Super Sucker
Kirby Sucks up all three opponents, and his attributes (speed, strength) match the best of each of them. So for example, a kirby with Bowsers strength and fox's speed.
Dedede: Waddle Dee Army
same as before, though more power would be good
Meta Knight: Galaxia Darkness
Same as Brawl, because i couldn't think of a good special attack for him
Knuckle Joe: Uppercut
Knuckle goes up to the  closest opponent and hits him square in the jaw

Donkey Kong
Kong: Kong Clap
Donkey Kong goes up to the nearest foe and hits them from both sides of the body. Ouch. Not to be confused with an inconvient disease
Diddy: Rocketbarrel Barrage
Same as Brawl. Diddy flies around shooting at people
Dixie: Rhino rampage
Dixie rides a Rhino across the stage, kicking ass
King K. Rool: Barrell drop
Barrels rain from the sky, exploding on impact

Mother
Ness: PK storm
Same as Brawl.
Lucas: PK Snake
Lucas' snake grows to an amazing size and crosses the arena, taking out anything in sight
Ninten:
???????

Fire Emblem
Marth: Critical Hit
Marth has an awesome final smash already
Ike: Great Ether
Same as Brawl: jumps up in the air and hits anyone unfortunate enough to be in his way
Lyn: Charge Slash
Lyn charges across the platform in one slash, critically damaging anyone in her way.

Advance Wars
Andy: Repair
Causes a modest amount of damage to the opposition while fully healing himself

Pikmin
Olimar: End of Day
Olimar Leaves in his space ship, leaving everyone below to fend for themselves.

Kid Icarus
Pit: Goddess summon
Summons Palutenia to the arena, where she acts as a partner for a short amount of time

Ice Climber
Ice Climbers: Snowfall
The arena becomes covered with snow, forcing other players to the ground at a greatly  reduced speed, allowing the Ice Climbers to hit them with strong smashes

Animal Crossing
Nook: Bill Pay
Everyone's percentage skyrockets except for Nooks (perhaps depending on how much damage they have done?), whose percentage goes down

Elite Beat Agents
Agents: Save the World!
Calamaties appear all over the stage(volcanos, car accidents), harming the opposition, and the Agents go to each spot and dance, also harming the opposition

Yoshi's Island
Yoshi: Super Dragon
Same as Brawl. He flies around on his wings shooting fire at enemies

Golden Sun
Felix: Catastrophy/Iris
Felix would summon Catastrophy to lay devastation to his foes, or summon Iris a certain low percentage of attempts. Iris is even more powerfuil, and heals Felix
Or he could just summon Reggie to announce Golden Sun DS

Warioware
Wario: Wario-man
Same as Brawl. Runs around in a silly costume

Everyone Else
Akari: Runaway boarder
Much like Falcons Smash, Akari would jump on her board and hit an unlucky player
Mac: Heavy Combo
Mac comes in for a few gut punches, then finishes it off with a good left hook to the jaw
Saki: Slash n Shoot combo
Saki hits one opponent with his blade, then proceeds to shoot at the remaining enemies ala Snakes final smash
Game and Watch: Octopus
Same as Brawl
Ray: Overload
Ray fires all weapons at once
Fighter: Bird reign
A flock of Balloon Fighter Birds would come from the heavens and knock into opposing players, sending them flying

What surprised, enchanted, troubled, and humbled me at E3 09 Day2

GOLDEN SUN! GOLDEN SUN! GOLDEN SUN! Also, no one has told me what the title of this blog post is a reference to yet

Agent for the PS3 better star a character named J

What Games Impressed me:
GOLDEN SUN! It looks almost exactly what i imagined and dreamed it would
Metroid: Other M. I couldnt make much sense of the footage I saw, but it was still flipping awesome. I cant wait to see and feel how this will play
New Super Mario Bros Wii. If this game ends up being full price 50 bucks, I probably will be less interested. At a cheaper price though, or if it is much longer than NSMB,  i will want this big time
Uncharted 2. There was a lot going on in the demo, and while i didnt like how much your unarmored main character was being shot by high powered rifles without taking noticable damage (what were those tables made out of? wood plated steel?), the gameplay looks just as fun as the first and the seamless transitions are fantastic
Soul Calibur Broken Destiny. They only showed a few second clip, but it looks just as good as the console entries and unlike most psp games the controls will most likely work.
Gran Turismo 5. Doesn't quite look real yet, but it's almost there. Nearly put this in indifferent or dissapointed because we didnt see any gameplay.
What games suprised me:
GOLDEN SUN! I had given up hoping for it. Last year I thought "they'll announce it this year!" and they didnt. I did the "IT's an N64!" thing when i found out.
MAG. Despite everything going on in the game, it sure looks nice from a technical standpoint. I worry about how they are going to handle the squads and stuff though, since it seems to me that most people wont bother listening to the squad member, and every drop-out would taint the game. And thats if people are even able to round up 255 people to play with. If there arent that many people available from day one, i can see people dropping this game.
Warioware. The minigame-making mechanic looks like a ton of fun. Do want.
COP: The Recruit looked very good running on the DS hardware
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker. This was both suprising and dissapointing at the same time, and i doubt how well it will control especially given the previous MGS entries onthe PSP, but the story and look got their claws in me

What games left me indifferent:
GOLDEN SUN! Just kidding, nothing about this game leaves me indifferent!!!!
Super Mario Galaxy 2. We already had a 3D Super Mario entry on the Wii. There hasn't been two on the same console since the SNES. unnecessairy
Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 days. I need to see more before making a judgement.
Gran Turismo PSP. I can't imagine controlling those cars being very fun with that control scheme, but i'll hold judgement until i get it in my hands
Mario and Luigi RPG: Bowsers inside story. I havent cared for previous entries in the series, and this looks like more of the same
Crystal Bearers. I just dont know about this game. I havent seen anything that has made me want it
Mod Nation Racers. The Customization options are vast, like LBP, but the gameplay seems lacking, like LBP. When Mario Kart looks deep in comparison, it's a bad sign. The idea of the track editor is very impressive though, and if the driving was more impressive i'd immediately move this to the section above
Trico. Same footage as the leak, but still cool footage.
God of War 3. Was it just me, or was every enemy reaction delayed? Looks like they added some new powers and such, but i haven't been a big GOW fan in the first place, and it looks like much of the same. While i'm sure many people will enjoy the game, im not exactly psyched. At least they didnt show another cutscene

What games dissapointed me:
GOLDEN SUN! I wanted to see more! They only showed us Felix and a few summons! We need more! Now!
Assassins Creed 2. Looks far to similar to the first game. It needs more improvements
Final Fantasy XIV online. first of all, this screams of Sony desperation (i hope nobody takes this the wrong way, but thats my honest opinion), announcing the next FF before XIII has even come out. Second of all, Another numbered online game? didnt they learn their lesson with the first one? Jesus...

WTF SONY?
White Knight Chronicles. I want this game, yet they showed next to no footage!
Heavy Rain.Same as White knight Chronicles
Montages. I love montages, but i dont know all those games just by looking at them. Give us the names of the games being shown!

What surprised, enchanted, troubled, and humbled me at E3 09 Day1

First Blog Post since the SSBB 47 part series. Also, kudos to anyone who gets the reference from this posts title.

What games impressed me:
Alan Wake. The mood, the story, the gameplay, all had me very impressed while watching the demo on stage. This may be a day one purchcase for me
All Points Bulletien (APB). While we didn't get a lot of substance, The trailer of the game reaffirmed that this will be a unique and hopefully awesome game.
Natal/Milo. I know that appearances are likely decieving in this case, but the idea was just too damned impressive to ignore.
Beatles Rock Band. I wont be buying it (my rock band setup is on the wii, and im not shelling out for two pairs of instruments) but Harmonix is going the extra mile for this one.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Another one i won't be buying, but the Snowmobile chase was extremely awesome
Edit: The Saboteur. The stylish look and plethora of options for going about your mission intrigue me. I'll have to get this one in my hands before making a final verdict

What games suprised me:
Splinter Cell Conviction. I haven't enjoyed any of the Splinter Cell games to date, but something about this one is grabbing me by the throat and saying "buy me". I just wish they'd not make the main character into a Jack Bauer rip-off, which it seems they have
Brutal Legend. Until today, i was not interested in the game at all, mostly due to my anti-Jack Black bias. However, the presence so far has me anxious
Rabbids Go Home. It looks like sort of a Katamari/Nuts and Bolts hybrid, which sounds good to me
Edit: Forgot Shadow Complex. That game looks EXTREMELY interesting.

What games made me indifferent:
Dante's Inferno. Maybe if I had been into the source material this would be different, but it looked pretty standard.
Crackdown 2. Another cg trailer featuring another muscle-bound, folicle-lacking hero. Have we had enough of these yet?
Metal Gear Solid Rising. Im sure the game will be good and all, but i am completely indifferent to it. I wanted 4.
Tony Hawk Ride. An example of how Microsoft (and likely Sony) are trying to get a little bit of Nintendo's wii juice. Couldn't they have just done this on the Balance Board?
Final fantasy XIII. Maybe it was because I couldn't hear what the demo guy was saying, but i couldn't understand at all what was going on. Maybe if i watch this part of the Conference again i can put the game in a different section.
Red Steel 2. I was dissapointed that sword swings still seem to be predetermined like the first one, but the graphics and style are, for lack of a better word, sweet

What games dissapointed me:
Star Wars. The Old Republic. The Jedi fight was flipping awesome, dont get me wrong. But I wanted to see some gameplay footage. The idea that everything will be read aloud instead of text is pretty amazing, but is gameplay too much to ask?
Mass Effect 2. I will be buying this game, no question. But they showed us the exact same trailer as we saw a few days ago, with no new information
Halo ODST/Reach. I'm not about to spend another 60 dollars on another mediocre single-player halo experience, or for the priveledge of playing the new multiplayer maps.
