My adventure: The Rally to Restore Sanity

It's official. The tickets are bought and the arrangements are made. I will be spending October 30th in the nation's capital, attending what may be the best rally ever devised by man. The main man Jon Stewart and his VP Stephen Colbert are storming the mall, and I'm invited.
I waited too long to pick up tickets, but I swear I had a good reason: I needed to get a final date for the Sounders playoff match, which luckily is taking place the next day, allowing me to take part in both. In all, it's going to cost over 600 bucks, but it's going to be an awesome 2-3 days.

Will you do a live feed of the event? If yes, will it have special guest? If yes, will one of those guests be Macho Man Randy Savage?

If all the answers are yes, then, my sanity is assured to be restored.

Glad i booked early, found my hotels right next to the rally and the white house for $130 a night!

Live feed? Nope... But I'll definitely do a blog about it afterwards :P Hope that's good enough.

Flying in from Seattle, but I've got family there so I don't need to pay for lodging, though staying near the white house sounds pretty nice :P

yeah, I know my way around, and anything I need help with I'm sure I can ask my extended family about. The Metro is great for getting around, though it doesn't go to the Dulles airport yet. Also, according to Glenn Beck, there's a few specific stops that you don't want to get off at.

The only other thing I'm really going to do there is go to the Newseum, which is my favorite museum in the whole flippin world.

The rally is going to be broadcasted live on Comedy Central.

@AgentJ: I live in DC and have never had any trouble on or around the Metro; don't listen to Beck, he's an idiot.

@Metalideth: The best tip that I can give is to take Metro and check their website before you leave. They have a trip planner that'll tell you not only which stops you want but also how much a one-way trip is going to cost you. When you buy your farecard, put enough money on it for the round-trip because the lines at the farecard machines can get really long and they tend to move slowly. Also, you might want to plan an alternate route back from the event. The Smithsonian station is the one that most people use for these things and it can get really clogged when the rally ends.

Or, if you're willing to walk, don't bother with the Metro. The White House isn't far from where the rally will be held and you can hit some nice tourist spots on the way. You can either head south from The White House toward the Washington Monument (you can't miss it) then head down the Mall toward the Capitol Building and past all the museums. Or you can walk down Pennsylvania Avenue past the Old Post Office Pavilion, the FBI building, the National Archives, the Newseum, and the Portrait Gallery's East Wing, all the way to the Capitol Building (if you want to go that far) or you can turn right at the Archives or the East Wing and just go to the Mall.

All of the museums on the Mall have restaurants of some kind (snacks to full food court) but they can be overpriced for what they are. There are also some food stands on the Mall itself but they have a limited menu and are also a little overpriced. There are some good restaurants in that area, though, and you should be able to get recommendations and directions at your hotel.

Same here. Damn, I wish I could go to it, but I guess seeing it live on TV will suffice.

Nah, I'm in MD. Garrett County to be exact.
