I blame their 3 shitty games.
Bionic Commando did not and still does not have nearly enough brand/name recognition to warrant a sales forecast of 1.5 million copies. Serious Capcom? You're going to reboot a franchise from 20 years ago, put a white guy with dreads and hotdogs in his arm on the cover and expect to sell that many? REALLY?
Also, I feel like GRIN banked waaaaay too much on the strength of movie licenses to sell copies of Wanted and Terminator. Both did decent at the Box Office, but the shit-ass quality of the actual Terminator movie probably turned a lot of people away from even thinking about buying the game while Wanted is a lesser known IP, especially as a videogame despite it pulling in nearly $140 mil at the BO.
I think when they signed on to make both games, they thought to themselves hey we crap out these games in less than a year and we make a quick buck..that obviously didn't work.

Still the guys you had on the podcast seemed like good guys and passionate about games, hopefully the former employees can still find employment in the industry.
