What upgrades do you recommend getting first? I bought the dash shield and it's not what I was expecting. Then I made the mistake of upgrading the shotgun but the range is lacking. I now see I should have probably gotten more of the sword upgrades instead. What do you all recommend?
The shield dash is weird. I'm still unsure what the conditions are under which it activates. I think it's the most unreliable upgrade in the game.
I thought I would dash through attacks, but you have to time it similarly to the sword deflection skill.
Yeah, I think that's the best way of explaining it. If you go too early you still get hit by the bullets, so you have to dash into the projectile(s) at just the right time to get the shield around the character. Felt a bit weird at first but I got used to it pretty quickly. Chain dashing, on the other hand, continues to baffle me. I just can't get the timing down.
It looks like Suikoden II ran away with the win. I'll be sure to purchase/download it. We'll start the playthrough right after Unprofessional Fridays on April 10th.
And a reminder that you guys can donate here to pick which characters should be in our party. Any dollar amount counts. The characters with the highest donation totals will be included in the party. Also feel free to donate toward unique names; if Suikoden II allows players to name characters, we'll do so accordingly.
There's a new donation incentive in which folks can donate to pick our party in either Chrono Cross or Suikoden II. The characters with the top donation totals will be included in our playthrough. More details can be found in the first post.
Going to bump this poll for some last minute votes. The game with the most votes by the end of the month will be the one we play for the Community Endurance Run, so you Chrono Cross fans out there should vote if you don't want Suikoden II to run away with it. Also...
Both Chrono Cross and Suikoden II feature a ton of different characters. We're letting viewers decide our party, so feel free to donate and leave a comment with the name of the character you'd like to see. Any dollar amount will do, as we're going to pick the characters with the highest donation totals. Folks can donate right now on our fundraising page, so feel free to get started on that prior to the event on April 10-12.
I also saw Whiplash recently, great film. I'm loving the Charles Mingus mentions, The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady is far and away my favorite jazz album. You also can't go wrong with anything by Miles Davis. Kind of Blue is the obvious choice for him, but my favorite Miles Davis album is actually A Tribute to Jack Johnson. It's a bit more experimental with a focus on electric instruments, but the trumpet/guitar interplay is amazing.
If you're looking for drummers as band leaders in particular, Art Blakey is a good one.
