I bind the "forward" side mouse button so that it moves my focused window to the other monitor (through DisplayFusion or similar programs). Something my friend turned me on to and that I don't think I could do without now.

Then using my mouse software I turn that off in games, and that button is then my push to talk in, say, Overwatch.

You can also middle mouse button the titlebar for the same I think.

I don't use it in games, but I do use gaming mice at work in the following way:

Browser Forward
F5Browser BackwardCtrl+W

An interesting point, but aren't you comparing oranges to apples? RPG gear isn't the same as cosmetic items. In WoW case wouldn't it be more apt to compare earned gear bought from an auction house? I don't play WoW to know if all gear is sellable so correct me if I'm wrong.

I usually am not there early on, but I did once make an exception for when Nosgoth was out. I was skeptical and all, but as a fan of the Legacy of Kain series I jumped in. Afterwards I fell for a thinking some of the community had, that if we support it we might get a single player continuation of the series so I forked out money for founders packs and other shit.

Never again.

I can't answer that since when I played the most I also got into emulation and older PC games and they are all part of the same age even though they covered a span of 20 years back then. I'd like that to keep going forward.

I think of all the games mentioned I would probably only agree with Journey. I don't really know how you can improve upon that.

Other than that probably Thumper. See the simpler the mechanics get and the more cohesive it is with audio and visuals and input the more confidence I have in calling them masterpieces. Maybe it's unfair to other games that try for much more, but their quirks just make me hesitant to commit to calling them masterpieces.

I sadly don't have textbooks as I've never learned like that. I would personally suggest tackling problems that are more programming specific. Algorithms especially is what I think helps the most. Learning how simple sort algorithms or pathfinding and then implementing them in some language helps a lot more than learning some js basics and then going for "new hotness" framework of the month. I say this to all the people I guide at work. Do not become a product/language person as you will be left behind.

Also the best thing I personally find especially once you start working is developing clean coding habits and studying anti-patterns. Also not sure why it's not more widely used, but learn regex. Even if it might not be worth it in most your projects it will at least teach you about how to think about the input your are processing.

Edit: For funsies

I'm prepared to take flack for this, but because of the entertainment not being to my current taste, Jeff, Brad and Alex are way more critic like. Jeff especially has a very "seen it" kind of vibe, that I'm really digging lately.

As far as entertainment focused. I thought I remember them mentioning that was their primary goal for a good while.

Games overall have slowed down and given people with insight more time to really analyze them. The result is that nobody seems surprised by much anymore. If you want a concrete example of what I mean, look at how the Starcraft 2 coverage changed over the years. So if you ask me, they are more and more becoming critics and I am ok with that. But that might be a problem in this "real reactions by real gamers" type of entertainment model is concerned.

I'm proud of these although they are more circumstantial than planned.

  • Beating Super Meatboy with a keyboard.
  • 100% on Tony Hawk 3 and 4 with a keyboard.

What I regret but was crazy for me:

  • All those damned feathers in AC2.
  • First playthrough of terraria was on Hard. It's not worth it.

I've dropped off the bombcast as I feel like the opinions for most games is on point in the quick looks. I would go back to current Bombcast, but I've been having a blast listening to pre 2013 era bombcast with hindsight.

@the_nubster: thanks, that's very informative. Yeah I still see it in my Steam Library now and again.
