The science has come in: Bio F.R.E.A.K.S. is worse than Blues Brothers 2000 and also literal photo editing software.

Anyway, having played some *questionable* N64 games recently, I hope you're ready for all the really quality Gex games you're gonna have to play at some point. Also Nightmare Creatures.

This man is incredibly talented and also triggers every bit of my brain that processes sensory overload and I salute him for it. Also watching it live gave me a headache and I had to stop

@judaspete: It's genuinely a fantastic example of late-era SNES games really pushing the hardware. Some immaculate vibes for sure. If it was remotely fun to play I probably would've been more glowing in my summary

@personz: Remember how not-Woody tries to kill himself in order to go to Toy Hell to rescue Sexy Doll from the devil only to be informed that it says in the Toy Bible that if you kill yourself you go to *regular* hell. Which leads to not-Woody poisoning a child and being stuck in a coffin which is how he gets to Toy Hell anyway it's really just one of the greatest games of all time.

@chaser324:while I did not shit with fear I can confirm that Illbleed is fucking bananas. Watching part of Game Informer's Super Replay was actually the original inspiration for this feature, and I'm very glad to say it lives up to its reputation. Just an extremely weird thing.

"A weird primitive photo editing software for the N64, still better than Blues Brothers 2000"

Man loudly yelling about his personal, inexplicable taxonomy of what does and does not constitute a "mainline" Mario game while failing to pay attention to the game he's playing on stream. That's CONTENT baybeeee

Man, I would be able to get into Thor High Heels if his videos were just a bit more coherent.

Actually, I'm here to bring up the existence of the Blair Witch Project trilogy of games from the turn of the century. They exist and were apparently meant to be scary. To anyone who is unfamiliar, I'll leave you in suspense over whether they have anything to do with the movies.

THH is definitely an acquired taste. He's one of my favorite youtubesmen right now but he's also so far down the rabbit hole on eclectic weirdo games that he's suffered a fatal bout of irony poisoning. Making a whole video talking about his love of Sonic 06 is actually a cry for help.

Those Blair Witch games are absolutely in contention for future streams. I think Patrick played one of them during his time on the site, though I couldn't tell you a thing about it other than being a middling Resident Evil clone.

@panfoot said:

I tried to play Daymare, I really, really tried...But I got stuck on a boss fight and the thing preventing me from actually beating it was that damned reloading mechanic. It did nail the frustration of the PS1 days I suppose, just not of the better survival horror games.

To its credit, the ammo management and reloading mechanics manage to self-justify why no other game should strive for that level of "realism." Obviously the streams are ahead of the blogs by a bit, but *spoiler*, Daymare is still the least enjoyable thing I've streamed for this thing.

All I remember is having Blue Stinger and playing some amount of it...and I don't recall hating it. But I will admit for sure say- I never finished it.

My excuse is that I won the Dreamcast and four of the launch games in a contest - yes, people actually do win contests of cool things. So, long story short I didn't even have to buy the game (or NFL 2k, Sonic Adventure, or Soul Calibur).

Looking back at the video I can say the graphics and story can be summed up with, "It would have looked impressive to someone who had been playing a Saturn, PSOne, or N64." I'm glad I owned a Dreamcast.

" ...An elegant weapon [console] for a more civilized age.” ― obi-wan kenobi.

The Dreamcast has been the #1 supplier for weird batshit crazy horror games, so I can't help but be thankful for its brief, weird existence.

@citizencoffeecake: The best part is I wrote that section on The Ring before he made the video in question.

Very glad this is back. now that we're free from Anime Hell we can finally get on to the real Anime Hell which is the N64 library. Not many OVA adaptions here folks, because after a certain point most Japanese developers stopped pretending the N64 was a real console.

In my heart of hearts I will always go to bat for DK64 even if I fully acknowledge it's a bloated nightmare mess I wouldn't touch again without the "swap kongs at any time" button. It's also the exact level of hellish to be a potential streaming candidate, one day. Really, all of the Rare N64 catalog is. Even you, Blast Corps.

Glad to know Mento and I have the same oshii. That’s the most important thing, I think.

Also for a free fan game this thing is actually kind of amazing. Looking forward to seeing it get updated, because I think it does have a chance at being as good as, if not better than, VS with enough time

I fully believe that Souls is like Pizza, inasmuch as the worst FromSoft Souls game is still pretty good. I'd go even further and say that the worst Souls game is still better than like, 75% of imitators out there. There are hard exceptions like Nioh, which I might take over MOST of these, but that's its own deal.

As for your ranking itself, it's pretty similar to what I'd probably do if I were to put these in some sort of ordered list (other than Bloodborne being at 1 or 2.) I fully admit I'm lukewarm on Demon's Souls, coming to it years later (and then finally finishing it with the remake,) but that's a discussion that requires more paragraphs of text than I'm willing to write at the moment.
