This looks like a European-ass RPG, in that it looks super interesting and incomprehensible at the same time. Looking forward to your inevitable Realms of Arkania ST-urday to continue that trend.

It turns out that when Jeff is gone there is a lot more inane/interesting Star Wars discussion that goes on during UPF.

Your opinion of Kvothe matches my own quite well. I hope the point of making him a super-smart, super-musical, super-tough, super-sexing (that stuff is super cringe-y), Fighter/Mage/Thief is that the third book will be all about how him being an arrogant shit causes his downfall.

Still, Rothfuss is an excellent writer and I'm pretty stoked that he did some work on Torment: Tides of Numenera. That seems like a game that would fit his style quite well.

Game of Thrones is a thing I can talk about! Sort of! I think I'm still hanging on to the novels for the sake of something to hold on to, because I think A Feast for Crows and A Dance With Dragons were both not great. I've stated it elsewhere, but I think Martin falls into the classic long-form fantasy trap of making "stuff" happen without advancing the plot in any way, shape or form. Something awesome is always *almost* about to happen, but before that some more "stuff" needs to occur. Maybe character development will happen, maybe not. The most egregious example for me is still Book 10 of The Wheel of Time, Crossroads at Twilight, which you could literally skip and not miss anything important. I guess what I'm saying is that I really need to find some new good authors so I can have an excuse to read more books. It's been a while and Brandon Sanderson only puts out so many books a year.

Oh right, back on topic, it's a bummer that the Game of Thrones Telltale game didn't turn out so well. For whatever issues their formula has, GoT seems like a pretty natural fit. Who knew Borderlands, of all properties, would be the one to top that? Next someone will tell me that Minecraft: Story Mode is secret GOTY.

EDIT: Oh right, I figured I'd just let you know that I bought Disgaea 5 indirectly because of you and another friend I have and will probably play some of it since I'm already sorta done with Fallout 4.

Dang, people are already putting out their Game of the Year lists? I can't think about that stuff for like another month. Your list seems pretty solid! I think the only point overlap you and I may have on whatever my list ends up being is Metal Gear. Life is Strange seems like it is pretty great from the GBeast streams, I personally found Hotline Miami 2 all sorts of disappointing, I found MKX slightly less disappointing but still underwhelming, and I'm giving Disgaea 5 a go to see if that series is for me in any way, shape, or form.

@valorianendymion: Allow me to be the weirdo who says nice things about Might and Magic IX: for a blatantly unfinished mess of a game, it's not half-bad. It's still recognizably a Might and Magic game, just sort of a dull, ugly one.

I do miss the weird blending of fantasy and sci-fi that both M&M and Wizardry had though. As you mentioned, it's not something that hasn't been done a lot in the past decade-plus.

It's a very Sega move to announce a new Valkyria game and then have it be the opposite of what the fans want. For as much as I like VC 2, in spite of how aggressively and belligerently "anime" its characters and story are, I want another game with big maps like the first one.

Interesting hearing some Twilight Princess talk. I'm with Dan on this one, in that I'd like to give that game another look to see how it holds up (especially if I don't have to deal with waggle or pay too much for a GC copy) I remember liking it well enough (not as much as Wind Waker) but it may be telling that I don't remember a ton of the specifics outside of "there was a ball-and-chain and that was pretty cool". It was a little hard to parse if Jeff thinks it's an actively mediocre game or a good, but uninspired one. I seem to recall Brad didn't play it, so I'm not sure where he's getting all dismissive from.

Also Dan's story about synthetic weed made me laugh harder than one of his dumb stories has in a while, so thanks for that.

This game's lack of content always seemed like a potential downfall. Bummer that it turned out to be true.

@loamlife: Yeah, I guess there is a form of it in Fates, but that's more about recruiting generic units (and a handful of bosses) than it is about stealing their stuff.
