Thanks for all the replies!

It sounds pretty universal though that I should avoid going back to school and find another job in the mean time while I work on creating something of my own to attempt to break into the industry. Hopefully I can find something less soul crushing than my last job.

I am 27 have been working in Tech Support for about 6 years and hate it. I woke up today thinking it was just going to be another mindless day at my job to find out, SURPRISE, the company is restructuring and I was among the handful of people let go. I find out not long after my renter wants me moved out by the end of the year as well. Good start to my day. I've been contemplating changing my career all together into something non tech oriented as I've only found stress in the field and I've also considered getting into Game Development which has been a long time interest for me. I went to school for programming to pursue that but did not complete my degree.

So here I am in the perfect position to do something radical. I'm wondering if any of you guys have been in a similar situation or have some helpful advice to help change my life. My current thoughts on what I should do are as follows:

  • Find another job in the field since I have experience and I need money. (Continue what I have been doing)
  • Try to find an entry level job in programming (Different path, will build experience, hard without degree/experience)
  • Go back to school for Programming or Game Development program (Finish my education, try and get even more debt and get a degree nobody looks at)
  • Drive into the Ocean and don't look back.*

I'm to understand that Game Development is a stressful job with low pay and long hours. It would be something that I would have an investment in though as I would be creating something and it's a passion of mine. I've been going through this udemy course on Unity I caught on sale for 40$ https://www.udemy.com/unitycourse/ a bit here and there before I had the bombs dropped on me today so I have a lot more free time to go through the course. Since I'm being forced out of this place in 2 months time I'm a lot more willing to move as well. What should I do? How can I proceed to do something better with my life and escape this deep well of depression that will surely catch up to me in a weeks time.
