JRPGs I own but have never beaten

At some point in my life I got it in my head that I enjoyed Japanese role-playing games, the only problem is  I rarely actually finish them.

List items

  • I hear it's probably best I don't finish this one.

  • I bought most of the Final Fantasy games a few years ago largely due to the RetroforceGO! podcast. They spoke about some of the moments in the series with such passion that I decided I had to own them. Sadly vicarious passion has only enabled me to complete FF1 and FF10 thus far.

  • I have absolutely no idea what happens in this game.

  • I tried FF6 out for a few hours but greener pastures (See: Mass Effect) lured me away.

  • I was very excited to finally get my hands on FF7. Years of seeing Cloud with his Buster Sword drawn on the binders of classmates and internet chatter had my hopes high. Those hopes were quickly dashed when I saw how terrible the games graphics had held up

  • One of the guys has a gun that is a sword! You'd think that would be enough to get me to play it.

  • That yellow eyed guy is in Kingdom Hearts 2 right?

  • I actually really want to finish this one. I loved X and really want to see how the story raps up.

  • My downfall on 12 was the hunter quests. I became obsessed with completing every one but burned myself out on the game twice trying to do so. The depressing part of not finishing this one is that I am at 87 hours into the game.

  • The music in this game is too good not to get back to this.

  • This was an impulse buy after seeing that it had been made backwards compatible with the 360. I don't think I'll ever get to it, especially with how Jeff talks about the original.

  • I really liked the opening cut scene, that's about all I saw.

  • Someone on a 1up podcast said this was one of the best RPGs ever. Maybe someday I'll find out if that's true.

  • *See next entry*

  • I bought Persona 3 on day one, I then proceeded to ignore it for a year. After Persona 3:Fes was released I decided if I was ever going to play the P3 I'd want the whole experience so I bought Fes. I tried it out, liked it, but eventually moved on because of what a massive time sink it was. Currently I'm watching the Persona 4 endurance run (watching episode 149 as I type this) and it has convinced me I need to give 3 another chance, even if it's not as polished as 4.

  • I really loved Dark Cloud 2 but I have bad luck when it comes to Level 5 RPGs. I enjoyed the inventing, weapon leveling, city building, and whatever that golf game at the end of a dungeon was called. The only thing I didn't like about it was having a brother who also enjoyed DC2 and saved over my game file while I was in the final dungeon.

  • Remember when I told you I had bad luck with Level 5 RPGs? It was only about 5 seconds ago so you should. The bad luck manifested itself at about 100 hours as a corrupted save file. The only other save was about 45min into the game. If anyone has a save file around Chapter 10 that can be transferred onto a PS3 system don't hesitate to PM me.

  • I loved the KH series but that card stuff just rubbed me the wrong way.

  • This one I picked up again recently after playing through the Yakuza 3 demo on PSN so things are looking up for this one.

  • Someday.

  • Someday?

  • Day 1 purchase, never even put it in the disc tray.

  • I actually enjoyed what I played of Lost Odyssey. And if the end of Disc 1 doesn't make you cry you aren't human.

  • The latest edition in a long line of Level 5 RPG's I will probably never complete, but at $18 it was too good a deal to pass up.
