After trailer: ooooooooooo the Petty's, this looks awesome, give me an nx now! This game will be the best Zelda ever!

After gameplay stream: wow this world seems really baron and kind of dull, which is incredible given the colour pallett. Gameplay mechanics seem a bit so so... Awwwh sheeeeeeet

Excitement level : 7/10

I see a lot of people saying this about the environment... you know what they showed was only 1 field area right? It's basically the Hyrule Field equivalent. There will be more densely populated locations in the full game.

@slag: The store tests and cleans everything they sell, and they even let you try it on a demo machine before buying to make extra sure. There is also a warranty in place. That's probably why it's $50.

The 360 version is great! I beat it a few years back, definitely the best way to play the game IMO.

@ericjasonwade: Unfortunately in Canada our dollar is pretty weak. I found a site selling the cart for $29.99 USD, with budget shipping for $2.95, bringing it to $32.92. The savings aren't great, though they are there.

I think I'm gonna sit on this a little longer. If I still really want it in, say, a week, I'll just go pick it up.

@vierastalo: Nope, just the cart. I don't really want it CIB anyway, don't have anywhere to put the box.

@ntm: It's not really anything specifically, it's just a game that's been missing from my collection for a while, and I was wondering if I should take this opportunity to finally add it. I would definitely keep it and enjoy the hell out of it, I can see myself playing it often when friends are over too. I actually asked my buddy to bring his Goldeneye over in the past month, but he's not always around.

In terms of my own feelings, I was 100% going to do it. I told myself that the absolute max I would pay would be $49.99 since that is all my credit, and while it sucks that it happened to be that max price, it was my defined limit. However, my girlfriend stopped me short and I walked out empty handed. I wanted to feel like I dodged a bullet, but I still find myself wanting it despite everything.

I love playing old games, so it's not really a matter of considering it over a new experience, because I see everything as being on the same field. I'll play my Xbox One for a bit and then turn on my Saturn later. And in terms of older games, GoldenEye is often cited as one of the best.

@arabes: I have the Goldeneye for Wii, and I have also played the original on emulators. N64 emulation is very hit or miss, plus I have this nice big CRT that I use for all my vintage consoles.

@imhungry: Most vendors on Amazon.com do not ship to Canada, and there would be a hefty "international" shipping rate if they did.

@paulmako: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/offer-listing/B00000DMAT/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used It's the same price on amazon.ca.

So outside of maybe happening upon it in a flea market or garage sale (which do not typically have the same bounty of cheap gaming goods in Canada), the game will cost me around $50 everywhere I turn.

I should note that most games at this store are quite overpriced, and the credit is non-transferable. I could get pretty much every game they have cheaper somewhere else. I'm just wondering if I should use up my credit for GoldenEye (and yes, I would be playing the multiplayer too), or if I should get some stuff that isn't as sought after and might be more fairly priced.

I thought about saving it for a new game, but part of me knows that the value of whatever new game I get will drop (was thinking either Pokken Tournament or Quantum Break), and at least GoldenEye will retain its collector value. I could re-sell it if I really needed to.

I dunno, I've been wanting to play GoldenEye for so long, and I guess I could just borrow a friend's copy instead of having my own, but I also think it would be a good addition to my collection. Bleh.

Recently, I traded in a few games to an independent retailer, and they offered me $100 in store credit, which I have been spending bit-by-bit as items I want come into the store. However, as I'm down to the last $55 on the account, I wondered if I should aim for something more expensive. I had been using it on stuff like Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 or a loose disc of Omega Boost, but as a big Rare fan, the fact that I don't own a copy of GoldenEye seems like a gaping hole in my N64 collection that needs to be filled.

I just want to be clear: I'm not asking if it's worth owning GoldenEye "in 2016". I am well aware of how dated it is. However, I haven't ever played the campaign, the multiplayer is still quite enjoyable, and there is currently no remake/remaster/emulator in existence that can successfully replicate the experience of this game. It seems pretty justifiable to want the actual cart.

The store is charging $49.99 CDN + tax for a copy, which would basically be my whole saved clip of credit. The game only goes for a little bit less than that on eBay (when shipping gets factored in), and although I'd basically be getting it for free if I used the credit, I wonder if i should save it for something more worthwhile. However, I also think I waste a lot of time wandering in the store, hemming and hawing over potential retro goodies to take home, and I kinda want to get something that's legitimately "fuck yeah" instead of "this is pretty cool, I guess".

So, I'm probably going to buy it, but I want to see what people say anyway.

Some of my absolute favourite games to collect for a console are compilations of older titles, because it gives me a way to dive back into gaming history while also presenting amazing value due to the wealth of games available. It's also a fantastic way of adding a lot of local multiplayer games to your library without resorting to piracy. I'm gonna name my Top 5 here, and I'd be interested to know of any other ones that I'm perhaps not aware of that you guys like.

5. Sonic Gems Collection

You might be thinking: Really? This game? There's hardly anything good on it! Well, that's kind of why it's on here. It's a compilation of Sonic's lesser-known, not as talked about adventures, and it's notable for being the first time Sonic the Fighters was available on a console. Truly, the only crucial game on this collection is Sonic CD, but the GameGear games make it worth a look, and you gotta force yourself to experience the beauty that is the Sonic R soundtrack at least once in your life. Also, Vectorman!

4. Rare Replay

Rare games were absolutely my shit growing up. My dad, sister and I would often bond over British humour like Monty Python, and it's the reason why we all enjoyed Rare's games so much as they were chock full of cheeky jokes and self-depreciating gags. However, the real reason for the love is of course because of the quality of the gameplay that most of these games have, and Rare Replay is a strong reminder of how important Rare's legacy is to console gaming. While it's a shame that it's missing the Donkey Kong Country games and GoldenEye, pretty much everything else is included here, and the majority of the games are worth playing all the way through. Except Perfect Dark Zero. I may have had a crush on young Joanna when I was 15, but that spark burnt out once I actually played her stupid game.

3. Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection

While Nintendo is still putting out their games piecemeal on the Virtual Console, Sega went balls-out early in the seventh generation with this monster of a collection. 35 games, and a lot of them are just awesome. The entire Streets of Rage and Golden Axe series, all the numbered Sonic the Hedgehog and Phantasy Star games, Kid Chameleon, Dynamite Headdy, Comix Zone, the list goes on and on. If you are a fan of retro games, or you are in need of a good co-op experience, this collection has you smothered. It's also pretty cheap these days, I see it in the bargain bin at EB Games often, so you really can't go wrong.

2. Super Mario All-Stars & Super Mario World

This, along with Mario Paint, is the first game I ever owned, so it has a very special place in my heart. I really couldn't imagine a better way to start my gaming career, with fully remastered versions of all the classic NES Mario games alongside the then-recent Super Mario World. Pretty much everything about this collection is on point, from the graphical and musical overhauls, to the inclusion of the Japanese Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, to adding a save feature to all the games. It's really crummy that the Wii version doesn't include Super Mario World, but I'll always cherish my SNES cart, and if you are fortunate enough to have a copy yourself, you should cherish it too.

1. Midway Arcade Treasures 2

Midway Arcade Treasures, to me, are the Mecca of compilation games. Almost all of the games on these collections are incredibly important to the medium, and they are also still extremely fun. The second one in particular has some of Midway's heaviest hitters, like Mortal Kombat 2 and 3, NARC, Total Carnage, Rampage World Tour, and many more. Some of the games are a bit too old for their own good, but this is my #1 simply because I have put more time into it than any other. I always find myself going back to it because these games are still amazing fun to play with friends. I personally think all 3 games are worthy of my top spot, but if I had to choose one, it would undoubtedly be 2. How many M-rated video game compilations even exist?

So there's my list. I could have included a few more, but I wanted to keep it concise. I wanna hear from you guys now :)

I played it for the GameCube way back when it launched, and I loved it. The story is cool, and it has some of the most fun and challenging bosses and dungeons in the whole series. I would love to play it again, and I'm not so hot on the Wii port that I currently own, but I think $79.99 CDN is asking quite a lot. If it were $39.99 I'd be tempted.

Holy crap, made it to the front page! Anyone could have made this topic though.

Also, I have a new one to add: I bought Chromehounds. In 2016. All I saw was FROM Software on the back, and remembering that people liked it, and I now know that the servers were shut down 6 years ago and there is nothing in the game except "training" missions. Oh well.
