The puzzles are fun.

The sprint speed helps since usually these kind of first person puzzle adventure games are quite slow. The narrator isn't as intrusive as other games like Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Mind, or Dear Esther. It's a pretty game. The audio design is great, from the foley, sound effects, and ambient music. Even if it's quite a brainy subject matter, it can get humorous especially in the computer text adventure bits.

Also, you play as a bot so that's extra cool and you can go third person.

Just because it's a game about existentialism and man-machine musings, doesn't mean explosions are out of the picture!

Who thought such a game could come out of the Serious Sam people?

When I read the comments, I thought that the video was going to be voiced, and each comment would get its own overly-defensive scathing remark. Instead, it's just a compilation of lazy internet snark, and it's capped off with a pretty appropriately disinterested hashtag.

Seems like Jaffe and the team found some low-effort comments and had a touch of fun with them. Not a big deal on either side.

You calling Giantbomb a bunch of lazy internet snark?! We are esteemed commenters, known the world over. Our snark is fit for a crown!

I'm all about this, reminds me of Vanishing of Ethan Carter with the mentions of weird fiction. Also, first person swinging yay!

So many but mostly Wolfenstein The New Order. It's the best FPS since Half Life 2, which I feel should be a bigger deal but people don't care for how it differs from most modern FPSs (well-developed characters, deals with tough topics well like racism and the holocaust, hipfire better than aim-down-sights, dual wielding, flanking and sandbox combat encounters, most of the storytelling not in cutscenes, not corridor level design, encourages run-and-gun versus stop-and-pop).

Alien Isolation seems to be doing well though in post-release commentary.

From the indies, Jazzpunk, Ether One, This War Of Mine, Lovely Planet, or Never Alone. That's just me. The Talos Principle could be amazing.

That's disappointing to hear. So, best RPG this year is still Divinity Original Sin? :P

I personally didn't enjoy that game as much as everyone else, felt weak to me. Maybe it's just not my cup of tea. This year in general has just been so lackluster, but 2015 on the other hand.....

On the latter thing, I'm totally disagreed. 2014 has been a great year if you don't focus just on AAA releases. Wolfenstein was amazing. And then there are all the independent ones...

The Marvellous Miss Take

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

Divinity Original Sin

Jazzpunk

Lovely Planet

Lifeless Planet

This War Of Mine

Never Alone

Dreamfall Chapters

Broken Sword 5

The Banner Saga

Transistor

NaissanceE

Mind: Path to Thalamus

Lethal League

Shovel Knight

The Floor Is Jelly

Betrayer

Nidhogg

Neverending Nightmares

Look at all that range!

What does it even mean to trust a video game publisher in 2014? Ubisoft is a massive network of studios so expecting like everything to be a winner is just crazy. FarCry 4 is great so far, Assassin's Creed Unity seems kind of dull/messed up. You win some and you lose some, this isn't any different from how it ever was. Wait for reviews and buy accordingly. It seems like people struggle way to hard to attach some sort of dramatic narrative to all this nonsense.

It's not really about the game's quality, but the politics that the game company uses. Here, we don't get to wait for reviews.

I guess I don't understand what you mean. What politics are they using? If people waited for reviews and didn't buy that shit sight unseen, you better believe things would change. Nothing makes a company change like change in their bottom line.

Politics as in not allowing reviews to go up before the release date so they can get as many people buying the game based on marketing and hype alone, which they did with AssCreed Unity. Even Kotaku had to make a big change to their coverage based on this post-release review embargo garbage. Taking future Ubisoft games (Unity, Far Cry 4, The Crew) off Steam. They put them back but they're still removed in the UK. Every statement that comes out of their mouth insulting the intelligence of the audience. Microtransactions. This post on NeoGAF sums it up well: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=138431938&postcount=914

They're as anti-consumer as a game publisher can get in this day and age, which is saying something as now Ubisoft are considered the new EA.

I've heard this before elsewhere, that COD:AW may be one of the best games of the year, and that it may be the best FPS this year.

Did everyone suddenly forget Wolfenstein? When that came out, it was incredible. It stole most of the positive press from Watch_Dogs. It wasn't supposed to be that good, and yet it came out right before Watch_Dogs, a huge, hyped up Ubisoft release, and stole the show in May. But yet I feel like everyone is forgetting that it even came out whenever I see nominees or people talk about GOTY stuff. Not that it is bad, but just forgotten. The staff, for the most part, loved it. So I'd have a hard time seeing a "good" COD winning over something like Wolfenstein, that isn't annualized and wasn't supposed to be as good as it was. COD just got back to being a "good" COD game this year after last year's disappointment.

Wolfenstein is one of the best shooters ever made. It's now the new standard for me. Not easily forgotten when FPSs not as good keep on getting released. Shit, I made a case for it over on NeoGAF (I'm Messofanego over there).

It's my personal GOTY.

Plus, it has actual dogs in there compared to Watch Dogs! :D
