I thought there was no f-ing way I'd get into a game like this. The repetition and difficulty looked insurmountable and I thought it would make me a grumpy person if I tried it.

I downloaded the demo on PS4 on Friday, played through all that content in about 15 minutes, and immediately bought the game on PSN. I felt like I could hack it, and I wanted this ridiculous challenge after all. Well, last night I "finshed" expert and watched the credits roll. I guess I was obsessed. After that I played a bunch of user-made trials. I haven't marathoned a game like that in a long time. There's still the master trials to do, but I needed to go to bed.

There's a lot here to play and obsess over without the DLC, but how is the DLC that's been released so far? I may need more to feed my addiction soon.

(I later realized there was a Steam sale on this game Friday as well. Darn.)

This just says that Square-Enix is taking cloud gaming R&D seriously. We don't know much about implementation yet.

I generally don't like cloud computing, but I haven't seen it implemented right yet either.

I played for a couple hours without a map and was getting lost, as usual. Then I looked up a map online as I was trying to do a 100% run and didn't remember where everything was. Many of the rooms look the same, so I didn't feel bad about it. It's plenty challenging anyway.

OG Metroid's lack of map is a little too intimidating for me, but it also doesn't surprise me that it still sort of holds up.

This was on sale for $3.49 in the eShop, so I bought it. I played it start to finish over the last couple days on the Wii U, getting every upgrade, and I really enjoyed it. I hadn't played it this way since I was about 10 years old back in the 80's. There is so much here that paved the way for other games, with its upgrades, open world, and atmosphere. I still have a blast running through rooms blowing things away with the wave beam and screw attack, Samus seemed invincible even then when she's fully upgraded. There are some annoyances, like the frame rate with lots of sprites on the screen, and the boss fights are not my favorite, especially Mother Brain. Super Metroid is a far better game, but I would hope an 8-years-later remake on much better hardware would be.

Metroid still holds up for the most part.

I figure Square-Enix will have plenty to show later. They have some big titles coming that are more for next year, like FF 15, and let's hope they put that tech they showed off last year into it. I'd rather just see it when they are closer to release, honestly. I wish that they'd put a lot of money into a new RPG/adventure project, but I don't know if it's a smart idea when mobile is still super profitable for them.

I went back to it finally, and now I've put 80 hours into it and I already think it is one of the best games I have played in my 30-years of RPG gaming. Play it. I like cliche cheesy dialogue if the ideas and scale are epic and well executed. It is oozing heart and soul and creativity. Incredible game.

This game will be beautiful on the 3DS. It's beautiful now, it just happens to be on an old engine and stuck at 480p. One of the best games of last gen. Anyone who like RPGs on the 3DS should pick it up assuming the port doesn't suck somehow.

I was up late last night, so I watched this Sony press conference on the side while I farmed items in Xenoblade Chronicles. I don't speak Japanese, but it was easy to follow. It wasn't that different than what we saw at GamesCom but once in a while I like to see what different things Japan is up to. The cool games that I picked up on were Phantasy Star Nova, Yakuza Zero (?), a Persona 5 teaser, and some stuff on the new Biohazard (Resident Evil) games. I can only keep pleading that Sega will localize their cool stuff for english speakers! Oh, and let's all hope North America gets more naked anime girl games... especially for the Morpheus.
