For one thing, I think it's worth pointing out that something being offensive is, at the core of it, an extremely personal thing. One person finding something inoffensive does not negate someone else finding something offensive (or vice versa), just like how one person finding something funny does not negate someone else finding something not funny, or finding something good doesn't negate someone else finding it not good.

To echo the rest of the posts, I'm less offended and more just, like, embarrassed on behalf of CDPR. When this game tries to get "edgy" or "dark", it's the most embarrassing, childish, middle-school shit. The advertisements look like they were pulled out of, like, Idiocracy, and are just pathetically dumb. I have now shot my way through three snuff and/or worse braindance studios, and there's not been a point to any of them, they're just "ooooh, this is bad, this is fucked up, isn't this so fucked up?" and it's just pathetic. It's like this game was written by fourteen year olds after googling "sex" who read a wikipedia article about Tor.

I ultimately think this is sort of emblematic of a larger issue with the game as a whole (it doesn't really explore any element of its setting, it just thrusts something unusual in front of you, goes "ain't that weird", gives you some Street Cred, and moves on without analysis, commentary, or exporation), but with the more adult aspects of the setting it comes off extremely callous.

I traveled a lot in the Before Times. Have a tattoo on my leg for every big trip I take. Travel is easily my #1 favorite thing to do, especially when alone. I'm admittedly lucky in that I'm a 6'2 white dude and thus have a fair bit of autonomy in where I can go alone, but there's nothing I love more than being in a city I don't know with no plan. I think I'd die if someone ever made me sit on a beach for a week.

I play a lot of tabletop games. I have about 3 shelves' worth of tabletop RPGs (not counting PDFs), and am in 4 weekly games. Always looking for more, though!

Not as much as I'd like to nowadays, but to keep the dust off my mostly worthless game design degree (and to have some fun with my extremely worthful computer science degree) I like to make games in my free time, both digital and tabletop. Currently working on an old-school ASCII roguelike and a tabletop RPG (using the PbtA system, for anyone who knows what that means)

I read and watch a lot of movies, although not as much of each as I'd like. Every year I tell myself I'm gonna read X books and watch Y movies, and every year I fail. Still a good motivation to keep current, though.

I've been cooking a lot, doubly so since The Current Unpleasantness began. Since moving, I've found myself missing the comfort food at home, so instead of settling for the garbage substitutes here (fun fact: Seattle barbecue, unsurprisingly, sucks!), I've been trying to figure it out myself.

I play a good amount of pool as well. My parents were both pool sharks in their own day, so I grew up with a table in the house, and then I worked at a bar all through college, so pool is a pretty close game to my heart.

I got a PS5 and an Xbox Series S. The PS5 was kind of a no-brainer: I still have a sizeable backlog of PS4 games I wanna play, and knowing I can still just pop those in the PS5 and pick back up were I left off has been pretty nice. I anticipate the PS5 will probably be my daily driver as far as consoles go (I also have a gaming PC, but I like having options available. Some games I just don't wanna play on PC!)

I get Game Pass for free through work, so I decided to pick up a Series S as a little Game Pass box, and it's nice! It's cool just to have a box that I basically never have to worry about buying video games for, and is full of games for me to pick up and play every once in a while. I already finished Gears 4 and Sunset Overdrive, and I'm slowly making my way back through the Master Chief Collection.

I'm definitely fortunate to be in this situation, but I like having options available!

@eroq: I think people just fundamentally misunderstand what a review is. A review is not an evaluation of the objective quality of the game, either by itself nor through consensus with its peers. nor should you exclusively seek out reviewers who line up with your opinions. There will be reviewers who like Cyberpunk 2077. There will be reviewers who hate Cyberpunk 2077. Both perspectives are equally valid, because an opinion is definitionally incapable of being right or wrong.

Going best to worst: Necrobarista, Tetris Effect Connected, Astro's Playroom, XCOM: Chimera Squad, Miles Morales, Bugsnax, Murder By Numbers, and the only new game this year that I didn't like, Doom Eternal.

Hoping to squeeze in Umurangi Generation before the end of the year.

@haz_kaj: buddy, both the Gamespot and the PC Gamer review you cite as being "much better" clocked near-identical playtimes at 50 hours. It's in the body text of James's review and the footer of Kallie's.

@haz_kaj: you wanna actually make a salient point about why you disagree with a review of a video game you haven't played yet or are you just be obnoxious and say nothing

Very excited to buy this for $30 in six months when all of the hype is gone, the bugs are patched, and everyone agrees this is a perfectly middling-to-average-tier open world game
