From what it sounds like you want, I'd look into Dragon's Crown as well. The game lends itself well to long runs or short bursts. For what it's worth, I agree with the criticisms most people have leveled against the handheld, and I do wish that Sony gave it more attention. That said, I don't regret the choice as (what little there are) the thing has some legitimately good games propping it up.

If you run up to the one on the right until he melee aggros, and then haul ass back down the ramp you ran up, he'll just fall off. Same goes for the one on the left. Relatively safe and reliable if you don't mind cheesing the system a bit.

For the Vita I thought that Dragon's Crown and Muramasa were both really strong efforts if you're into those kinds of games. Also the art is gorgeous.

If you're a nostalgia-whore like I am, you can always do what I did and turn your Vita into a portable PS1 as well.

For anyone who has played Chrono Cross it isn't a game about story, its about so much more than that.

Its about putting together a magical skeleton, its about finding an alien on an island, and ultimately, its about a flying sheep and its choice between good and evil.

Between the music and the battle system I think its one of the most fantastic rpgs ever made.

Voted for CC and was prepared to present my rationale until I noticed you already did.

Also I want this on a goddamned t-shirt.

@snakelinksonic: Ah that fixed it right up. Thanks, I guess I was looking too hard for the option to change my name and looked right past it. It should be sorted now, and I also should be on later in the day today. My activity might be a bit more weird than because I'm teaching in China right now, so at the time of posting this it's around 8:53am.

Hey duders, just picked up this game yesterday and I'm having a great time with it. I wanted to join up in the free company, but I think I messed up somehow on guildwork. Though my character is registered, my application for the GB guild shows my character name as the same as my username: Fake Charlemagne, but it isn't. My character name is Kaspar Grey. Any ideas on why it would do that or how to fix it?

Oracle of Ages/Seasons is really good if you enjoyed Link's Awakening. There's also Shantae, which I enjoyed the hell out of and is great if you're looking for a challenging platformer. There's also the first Castlevania game up there which is great stuff, though the save-state thing really cuts into the difficulty.
Also I'm gonna throw my hat in towards Etrian Odyssey IV as well, since I was just playing it. I adore solid dungeon crawls, and I think the map-drawing mechanic really adds to the experience.

My money is on PS4, though I'd love a cross-buy feature with the Vita too. And while I'm wishing, Kojima needs to just stop on by and share some of that "Transfarring" magic with Atlus.

I think that there's a definite lack of convincing romance in games. I think there are certainly exceptions, like I know someone already mentioned Persona 4, and I'd definitely throw some of the Final Fantasy games up there too. But then some of the more recent games I've played like DmC and GoW3 had these clumsy attempts at romance tacked on that just felt sloppy and unconvincing. It's one of those things where, if you're not going to devote serious narrative attention to developing, it's better left out.
