It's that time again. It seems like yesterday I was making this list for 2024. How time flies. Nothing much has changed in the world. The gaming industry still sucks. The growth and investing in ai has a lot of people panicking. And gaming in general as a hobby has gotten a lot more expensive. But, this is a time of fun and celebration So, without further ado, here are my favorite games of this year.

This game was easily the talk of the year, and for good reason. It's one of the best turn-based RPGs to come out in years. The presentation, story, music score, twist endings. Everything you could want in a top quality story driven game is here. Add to the fact, it was done by a small team, and you see why the game is getting so much praise and will likely win a lot of year-end awards. It has already won mine.
The long awaited sequel finally happened, and it was worth the wait. Hornet is a cool character to play. The new kingdom is nice to explore and the lore behind it is interesting. Everything that was great about Hollow Knight is amplified here. But the one thing that kept it from taking the top spot, is the increased difficulty. It wasn't enough to keep me from enjoying the game, but it made me think about it a couple of times.
This game is simple yet addictive. You use balls to defeat evil monsters, getting power ups along the way and trying to keep them from reaching you. On top of this, you're building a town to get new characters and give them initial buffs. It's a nice gameplay loop that will quickly time hours out of your day.
I can only go by the games I played this year, and while Silent Hill 2 Remake came out last year, it was a game I finally got around to this year. It is a great remake of an already classic game. Some parts are expanded on from the original game. The boss fights are more engaging, and more difficult as a result. And all the powerful story beats are more detailed and impactful.
While mostly made by Platinum Games and not Team Ninja, they still did a good job capturing what makes the modern NG series good. All the action and challenge is still here. The new protagonist is cool, reminding me a lot of Cloud from Final Fantasy VII. It's a solid entry after many years.
This is based on the remaster they did a couple of years ago. I decided to finally try a Katamari game after Jeff Gertsmann talked so much about it during his video game podcast show. And I'm now an instant fan. I was always planning to play one of them, but it wasn't until the podcast that I finally decided to try one.
A live action game that surprisingly got its hooks into me this year. When Season 3 dropped, I decided to give the game another go, as I've been playing it off and on. After being able to create my first ultimate descendant, it was off to the races. It helped that special events allowed me to get resources I'd normally have to grind for to create other characters. Then it became about the meta character builds and weapons, maximizing DPS damage. And before I knew it, was at master rank 24 and counting.
Another game last year I didn't get around to, but was able to play this year thanks to PS Plus. It's a cool tactics game with a nice detailed story and character personality. If someone told me this was a direct sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSX, I would believe them.
A beautifully weird game by Double Fine. You play as a lighthouse of all things and your job is to venture throughout the interesting landscapes helped by a bird to solve its many puzzles. It's quite the experience you shouldn't miss.
I missed the whole Tony Hawk craze during its prime in the PlayStation 1 and 2 eras. So I was happy when they decided to remake those classic games, especially after the disaster that was Pro Skater 5. 3 + 4 is the continuation of this good trend. I heard the many old school fans were upset the open world theme of 4 was taken out, but you can't miss what you never played. The Tony Hawk games really are video game staples, fun but equally challenging.
