Prepare for an adventure of limitless possibilities as you build, mine, battle mobs, and explore the ever-changing Minecraft landscape.
Minecraft is a 3D-sandbox game created by Markus "Notch", Persson. It is maintained by Mojang Studios which is part of Xbox Game Studios. This, in turn, is part of Microsoft.
Minecraft was almost entirely developed from its conception. Jens Bergensten became the head of Minecraft's development after Jens "Jeb” Bergensten joined him. It features music by Daniel "C418" Rosenfeld, Kumi Tamioka and Lena Raine and paintings by Kristoffer Zetterstrand. The game was initially released under the name Minecraft Classic on May 17, 2009. It was finally released fully on November 18, 2011. Since its release, Minecraft has expanded to mobile devices and consoles. Microsoft purchased Minecraft and all Mojang Studios assets for US$2.5 billion on November 6, 2014. [6][7] Notch is no longer employed at Mojang.
Minecraft focuses on allowing the player to explore, interact with and modify a dynamically-generated map made of one-cubic-meter-sized blocks. In addition to blocks, the environment features plants, mobs and items. You can build, mine for ore, fight hostile mobs, and create new blocks and tools from the various resources in the game. The game's open-ended model allows players to create structures, creations and artwork on various competitive or collaborative multiplayer servers or their single-player maps. Redstone circuits can be used to perform remote actions and logic computations. They also have minecarts and tracks. The Nether is a mysterious underworld. It is possible to travel to the End to defeat the Ender Dragon, but this goal is not mandatory.

A new Minecraft world.
Steve is one of the default characters for players.
The user's player is the person who controls the world. The user creates a new game and is placed in a world that has been generated randomly by a seed. A chest containing basic items will be generated near the player if the bonus chest option has been enabled. The player has a health bar with 10 hearts and can be damaged by falls, suffocation, drowning, fire, lava, lightning, cacti, sweet berry bushes, magma blocks, falling into the Void, hitting another entity with thorns armor, splash potions, falling anvils and being hit by mobs and other players. Armor or Resistance potion can mitigate damage to health. Eating food and drinking specific potions can restore health. If the difficulty is set to Peaceful, health regenerates on its own. Hunger is also a factor. If the difficulty setting is not Peaceful, it will deplete over time and become even more severe while sprinting, jumping, or swimming. The hunger level can be replenished by food, but eating rotten flesh or raw chicken may cause a hunger effect. The difficulty level will determine how starvation affects the player's health. It can even lead to death.
A player can change their skin on the profile page of Minecraft.net or in the Minecraft Launcher in Java Edition and in the pause or main menus on Bedrock Edition.
A building that is based on a Greek-inspired acropolis.
Minecraft is a three-dimensional world made up of cubes. Each cube is occupied by a different type of block. There are several types of blocks: natural blocks like stone, grass, and ores that can randomly generate in the world. There are also blocks that you can craft. For example, a crafting table or furnace. You can either use tools or hand to extract resources from blocks. Some of these resources are blocks that can be put in the inventory of the player, while others are used to create new blocks or tools. Some resources are of no practical use. Some blocks are impossible to break through normal survival mechanisms, e.g. bedrock, end portal frames, command blocks, nether and end portals, barriers and air.
Mining
Various ores (in proximity of lava) that can be mined with a pickaxe.
Mining is one of the main aspects of Minecraft and is done to extract ore and other materials mainly from below the surface of the map. These ores include iron and copper, as well as gold, iron redstone, diamonds, lapis lazuli and copper. Mining can be done either from the surface, or down through a mine shaft. Because they are rich in ores, mineshafts or ravines can create additional areas that could contain resources.
Crafting and smelting
A crafting table is used for most of the Minecraft items and blocks.
Crafting allows players the ability to create new tools or blocks by using items in their inventory. The subsequent versions often include crafting instructions for new blocks and items. To craft, a player can either use the 2x2 grid found in their inventory or the 3x3 grid provided to them by a crafting table. A furnace is required to melt iron. It also requires fuel. The furnace processes the blocks into a more useful form, such as raw iron into iron ingots that can be used to make iron tools and armor.
Brewing and enchanting
An Enchantment Table containing glyphs that can be absorbed into it.
Brewing creates potions from various ingredients and water using a brewing stand. They can be stored in a bottle and then consumed by the players. Enchanting can also be used to improve armor, tools, or weapons by using an enchanting table or anvil. You can unlock more powerful enchantments by gaining more experience and placing bookshelves near the enchanting tablet.
A creeper in a forest. Creepers follow the player and explode when they get close.
Mobs (short for "mobiles") are the animals and other creatures that inhabit the map. Hostile mobs attack the player while passive mobs do not. If provoked, neutral mobs will attack (not all neutral mobsts are the same).
Many passive mobs can be found in the Overworld and may be killed or bred together.
Pigs: After death, they will drop raw porkchops. They can be ridden on a saddle with a carrot and held onto a stick. Cows can be milked with a bucket and can drop raw beef upon their death. Sheep can be sheared to make 1-3 wools by dropping 1 gram of raw mutton and 1 gram of wool upon their death. Chickens: Lay eggs by dropping raw chicken and feathers after death. Horses can be ridden on a saddle and can drop leather upon their death. They travel much faster than pigs. Rabbits can be dropped with rabbit meat, hide, and its foot. This is a brewing item. Bats can fly around caves in ambient mobs. Fish: There are many items that can be dropped by passive ambient mobs, such as food or bones. If they are killed while on fire, mobs that drop food will drop the raw version.
Common hostile mobs you will find throughout the Overworld include:
Zombies: attack by melee damage. Skeletons: have a bow and infinitely many arrows. Spiders: leap large distances and climb walls. Witches can use potions. Creepers will explode if they are within a few feet of the player. Endermen are tall, black creatures with purple eyes that turn aggressive when the player is near them.
There are also some rarer mobs found in the Overworld that only spawn on certain occasions or in particular biomes, places, times or times.
Spider jockeys: A skeleton riding a web spider.
Chicken jockeys: a baby zombie riding a chicken. Slimes: They spawn in the swamplands and deep within the map. Villagers can trade with the player and live in villages. Cats: Can be tamed and can live in villages or in swamp huts. Parrots are able to imitate the sounds made by nearby mobs. Wolves can be controlled by the player to attack enemy mobs when they are attacked or engaged by them. Llamas: Can store items and make caravans. Mooshrooms - mushroom-covered cows spawn in mushroom fields biomes. Vindicators: spawn at woodland mansions. Pillagers spawn in pillager-outposts. Evokers spawn in Woodland Mansions. Phantoms: spawn in the event that the player hasn’t slept within three days. Pandas: They spawn in jungles, but are more common in bamboo forests.
Some are found exclusively in the Nether, including:
Ghasts: Flying ghosts that shoot fireballs at the player. Zombified piglins can wield golden swords, and attack in hordes if provoked. Piglins can barter for ingredients or blocks. Wither Skeleletons: Tall skeletons that wield stones swords and drop coal. Sometimes, wither Skeleleton skulls can be used to summon an optional boss, the wither. Blazes are fireball-firing arrows that can be directed at players while hovering above the ground. Magma cubes are similar to Overworld slimes but are more fire-resistant and do more damage. Striders are passive mobs that can walk on lava and ride on a stick with a warped moldus.
The End contains the Ender Dragon, which is the main boss mob in Minecraft and allows the player to exit back to the Overworld when it dies.
Withers are the second boss mob in Minecraft and are created by the player by placing wither skeleton skulls on top of soul sand or soul soil in a specific pattern. When they are spawned, they shoot wither heads at nearby undead mobs and cause the Wither Effect to be activated for any mobs that are hit by the skulls.
The Nether
The Nether.
The Nether is a dimension in Minecraft accessible from the Overworld by a nether portal. It consists of five unique biomes, which are the nether wastes, the basalt deltas, the crimson and warped forests and the soul sand valleys. Each biome has its own unique generation and terrain. It is home to zombified piglins (blazes, ghasts), blazes and ghasts as well as magma cubes, hoglins, piglins, and piglins. You will find nether quartz and nether gold, as well as ancient debris. The Nether also features large oceans lava with striders walking on.
The End
The End.
The End is another dimension where the player must defeat the ender dragon. The End can be accessed via an end portal located in a stronghold. The End is composed of end stone and is inhabited by endermen. It also contains tall obsidian towers, on top of them are end crystals that can heal the ender dragon. Once the ender-dragon is defeated, the exit portal is placed in the center of your map. An end portal is placed near the edges of your map. This portal transports you to the expansive outer islands. These islands are full of chorus fruit trees and filled with chest loot and shulkers. The end portal can only be accessed if you throw an Ender Pearl. There are no ores at the end.
Multiplayer (Java)
PvP (player against player) on a multiplayer server.
Minecraft multiplayer servers have developed to include their own rules and customs, guided by their administrators and moderators. The term griefer, meaning a player who causes grief, is a typical term on the internet but has taken up its definition on Minecraft servers: a person who destroys or defiles other users' creations on servers.
Griefers are the reason many server administrators make rules, but this has been taken a step further with modifications to the Minecraft server and even plugin-based replacement servers such as Bukkit. Because of these plugin-based servers, new user-created features have shown up in Minecraft. This includes features like vehicles, money, protection, RPG elements, and more. These features are usually not required to be modified on a user's computer and can be accessed via chat commands. The default controls allow you to bring up the chat screen by pressing T.
Spleef, which is a play-on-the-word "grief", is a very popular multiplayer game. In this game, the player aims at making another player fall through a floor by destroying blocks below their feet. This game is usually played in one area and is often run automatically by server plugins.
There are many popular multiplayer server options that may offer PvP, custom minigames, or large Survival, Creative, or other games.
Multiplayer (Bedrock).
Multiplayer in Bedrock Edition is different to multiplayer on Java Edition because it is focused around a friend system. You can add friends via the Friends tab in your menu or on the pause screen for a world. Instead of paying for a realm or server, a player may invite their friends to join a world. Minecraft has featured servers on Bedrock, which means that they are available when opening the game. There are seven featured servers available: The Hive (CubeCraft), Mineplex, Mineplex Lifeboat, Mineville Galaxite and Pixel Paradise.
Minecraft Realms
Minecraft Realms is an official subscription-based server hosting service that allows players to create and manage their own private Minecraft multiplayer worlds. Rabbitfest Realms, hosted by Mojang Studios allows for a fast and easy way to create servers. The owner can also manage them from within Minecraft without needing to be familiar with the concepts of hosting on the Internet. However, Realms are not intended for large public servers, but for groups of friends or as a family server. Private Realms servers can be set up quickly and are available 24/7, provided the owner pays.

Notch with Minecraft: Pocket Edition.
The Bedrock Edition (also known as the Bedrock Platform, Bedrock Codebase or Bedrock Engine) refers to the multi-platform family of editions of Minecraft developed by Mojang Studios and Xbox Game Studios. Prior to this term, as the engine originated with Minecraft: Pocket Edition, this entire product family has been referred to using as "Pocket Edition", "MCPE" or "Pocket/Windows 10 Edition".
Minecraft, with no subtitle, is the title of all Bedrock editions of Minecraft. Before the Better Together Update there were different subtitles on different platforms: Pocket Edition (for all devices), Console Edition, Windows 10 Editions, Gear VR Editions, Fire TV Editions, and Console Edition.
Minecraft: Pocket Edition was initially launched exclusively for the Xperia PLAY on Google Play[9] for US$6.99 on August 16, 2011. It was later released for other Android devices on October 7, 2011,[10] and iOS on November 17, 2011. The Pocket Edition was available for purchase at the Amazon Appstore on September 13, 2012. The Windows Phone version was released on the Windows Phone Store on December 10, 2014,[12] for which the Pocket Edition 1.0.0 release and newer are available only for Windows 10 Phone and newer. Since then, four adaptations of Pocket Edition have been released; for Windows 10 on July 29, 2015, the Gear VR on April 27, 2016, the Apple TV on December 19, 2016, and the Fire TV on December 19, 2016. [13][14][15][16] Apple TV Edition has been discontinued as of September 24, 2018.
Legacy Console Edition
Legacy Console Edition refers to the editions of Minecraft for consoles that are developed and updated by 4J Studios.
The Xbox 360 Legacy Console Edition was announced on June 7, 2011, at E3 2011. Xbox 360 Edition was first released digitally on May 9, 2012, and then a physical edition on June 4, 2013. The game was also released on other platforms such as PlayStation 3 Edition (December 17, 2013), PlayStation 4 Edition (September 4, 2014), Xbox One Edition (September 5, 2014), Xbox One Edition (September 5, 2014), PlayStation Vita Edition (10 October 14, 2014), Wii U Edition (12 December 2015), and Nintendo Switch Edition (12 May 2017). These versions have not received any new feature updates since December 10, 2019. The latest available update depends on the platform. The most recent update on Xbox One Edition and Nintendo Switch Edition is the World of Color Update, while Xbox 360 Edition, PlayStation 3 Edition, PlayStation Vita Edition, and Wii U Edition have access to Update Aquatic. The most current version of Village & Pillage is available in the Xbox 4 Edition.
Education Edition
Minecraft: Education Edition is an educational version of Minecraft specifically designed for classroom use. It is developed by Mojang AB and Xbox Game Studios and contains features that make Minecraft easy to use in a classroom setting. The complete game was launched on November 1, 2016.
New Nintendo 3DS Edition
Minecraft: New Nintendo 3DS Edition was released on September 13, 2017. It is a unique port by Other Ocean Interactive. It is only available in the Nintendo eShop for New 3DS and New 2DS. Multiplayer is limited only to local play. This edition was discontinued January 15, 2019.
There are a number of other versions of Minecraft.
Minecraft 4k is a simple version of Minecraft in the style of other "4k" Java games (everything is packaged in 4 kibibytes) that Notch has entered in contests. Minecraft: Pi Edition was an unported version of Pocket Edition 0.5.0 on the Raspberry Pi. [17] It was intended as an educational tool to help novice programmers. It allowed users access to the game code and supported multiple languages. However, it was withdrawn in January 2016. Minecraft: China Edition is a China version of Minecraft only in China.

Game customization
Add-ons
Mojang Studios/Minecraft supports the Add-ons [Bedrock Edition only] which are the first step in customizing Minecraft. They allow players to alter the look and behavior of mobs as well as add entities, objects and blocks, structures functions, biomes, and other features.
Behavior packs
Behavior packs [Bedrock Edition only] modify vanilla mobs' and fogs' behavior. They are still under development and will soon be able modify the behavior of items and blocks [citation needed].
The game supports the modification of most textures, sounds, and text through resource packs. Resource packs must contain a certain structure of files and folders placed in the .minecraft/resourcepacks folder. Installed resource packs, as well as the folder in which resource packs are placed, can be accessed in the options menu. The extent to which the resources are changed is dependent on how many files are contained in the resource pack.
Data packs
Data packs (Java Edition only) allow players to customize vanilla worlds in the same way as resource packs. Data packs are not like resource packs which modify the game's resources. Instead, they can be used to override existing features, functions, structures, recipes, and tags without code modification.
Skins
Skin refers to the texture that is placed onto a player model or mob. The skin is divided into sections that define the character's skin surface (for example, the left leg, front head, etc.). A skin can only have solid colors. Transparency is not allowed except on the second layers, which are transparent by default. However, playing offline, you can leave pixels unaltered, which could result in "holes" in your skin. The second layer can be used for accessories such as glasses, hats, and other clothing. You can also adjust the arm size to make it slimmer or more normal. The slim variant measures only 3 pixels wide and the normal variant 4 pixels.
Java Edition
Java Edition has no special skin features. This version includes only the features mentioned in the first section.
Bedrock Edition
You can customize your skin in Bedrock Edition with many more options. Players can add 3D custom hair, eyes, mouths, arms, legs and more. You can also alter the size of your character. You can also purchase many accessories to your skin. The player can't do this with a custom-made skin. Only with an ingame skin. You can also purchase accessories and skins. A skin that is smaller or larger than normal does not affect your hitbox size. However, it can give you an advantage on multiplayer servers as it can be more difficult to see them. Some skins hide their armor and hand-held items.
Capes
Capes are an uncommon vanity item that players can wear on their backs. In Bedrock Edition, players are given a cape by default. Some skins include capes.
When the player is running, capes will also flail. The texture of the capes changes when the player equips them with elytra.
Unofficial mods
Minecraft can be modified by replacing or adding Java class files to minecraft.jar in Java Edition. This method of making custom modifications is not supported by Mojang as it can break the game if the mod is outdated, defective, or in conflict with another mod. Some of these modifications impressed Notch enough to add them to the game. Mods such as Hippoplatimus' Piston Mod or horses from Dr. Zhark’s Mo’ Creatures mod were implemented in the main game in Beta 1.7 and 1.6.1, respectively.
Third-party software
There are many programs designed for Minecraft. These include 3D maps editors and viewers, game mods, game modifiers, and other informational programs (such a crafting recipes, server wrappers, or other specialty programs). As with mods, these too are not supported by Mojang.
Reception
Metacritic ranked Minecraft number one in the top video games for 2010[18] and Video Game Canon ranked Minecraft number one among all time. [19]

", similar to the Minecraft death screen. - If the player launches with "Pure Blooded Thief", and "Presumed Dead", and then selects to do nothing, then selects to do nothing, then selects to do nothing, then chooses to do nothing, then selects to do nothing, then selects to do nothing, then the "Spiked Wheels (Left)" and "Hammer [Left]" options, Henry will attempt to "mine" for glass in a similar fashion to Minecraft, but he is killed. Henry's rocket crashes to the ground when the player selects Hammer (Right). This failure message, which reads "Return to Sender", may be related to the Minecraft achievement. - If the player launches with "Government Supported Private Inspector" and "Ghost Inmate", then the "Magic Hat", and "Free Transform", options, the player may choose "Leafmode". A diamond block can also be seen near the painting. Also, a diamond helmet can sometimes be found.
