@lego_my_eggo: Wow, thank you so much for the link to that browser plugin!!! I was going to manually catalog all my Ps3/Vita digital purchases in a spreadsheet this weekend before the web store goes kaput (mainly for ease of reference later on, but also to download some stuff onto my Vita I may have forgotten about...turns out I own more digital PSP/PS1 games than I remember) - that plugin made it trivial to export the info and save it off. You saved me a lot of work this weekend :)

What I have seen of the Switch port is very impressive, it runs/looks really good except for some slowdown I saw twice when there was a ton of enemies. But even with the slowdown, it didn't feel laggy, if that makes sense, I felt like I still had decent control over the character.

I played for a couple hours today and got to the second boss, really loving it so far. I had been wanting to play this for quite a while, but was holding out until 1.0 dropped.

This is the best combat that Supergiant has done. That alone would be enough to sustain most roguelites, but on top of that you also have amazing art and world-building/writing along with an absolutely ludicrous amount of top-notch voice acting.

Definitely agree with this, even having only played for a couple hours so far. It makes a great impression from the get-go.

I remember the battle system feeling very unique to me back then. Was there any other noteworthy third person action-rpg back then? Devil May Cry was released half a year earlier, but that still felt like a game that was fully planted in the action adventure genre.

Being able to rapid-fire fireballs at enemies and get XP for it, it felt like a game changer compared to the Final Fantasies i played.

I definitely think there is something to this thought. I was racking my brain and trying to come up with PS2 action RPG games with similar combat systems - Rogue Galaxy, Ys: Arc of Naphistim, etc. The only game that pre-dates KH that I could come up with was Dark Cloud 2, and it came out only like a month before. Dark Cloud 1 was around PS2 launch, but its combat is not nearly as good, so I excluded it.

Desperados 3 definitely has my top spot, it is a stealth masterpiece, I loved it. Been replaying a bunch of the missions and trying to complete some of the harder optional challenges. More people should check it out.

My number 2 is probably Murder by Numbers, honestly. What a good murder mystery visual novel Picross game with way better writing than you would expect!

I also played a lot of other excellent games, but they didn't come out in 2020. For example, I am kicking myself for putting off playing Yakuza 5 for so long (I blame the fact that it was a digital-only PS3 release originally), it is probably my fav in the series now, tied with Yakuza 0.

In terms of new releases, I've played a ton of Nioh 2, it's more Nioh, and totally solid. I wish they would have pared down some of the systems and tried to streamline it a little more, but I was able to wrap my head around it and it got its hooks into me.

The other new game I (surprisingly) played a lot of was Zombie Army 4. Picked it up on sale a while after Abby did that quick look, and gotta say, it's a lot of dumb fun. Campaign is surprisingly solid (even solo! also, the final boss/level is fantastic), horde mode is fun & very replayable, and they have weekly events with interesting rule tweaks that I have been checking back in on. Online (at least on PS4) is still quite populated, too.

Murder by Numbers. My most played games on Switch are the Picross S games so mixing that and adding adventure game elements to it makes for an immensely enjoyable experience in my opinion.

Yeah, Murder by Numbers is great, definitely in my top 3 games so far this year! I'm almost done with the last case I think (game is longer than I thought, my Switch tells me I have 20 hours played). The writing & characterization is like, staggeringly good, probably the best I've seen in a game in a while (would not have thought I would be saying that about a Picross game, but hey, here we are). And the cast is quite diverse, too, which is great. Not a lot of games with a recently divorced black woman as the main character and a whole case devoted to figuring out if a giant parade float that crashed into a drag club is a hate crime or not. And they somehow balance heady topics like that with a semi-breezy tone and totally nail it, somehow.

Hi there, I noticed this bug for the first time today, this is on a Safari browser on iOS 13.3.1 on my iPad mini 4 (where I end up watching a lot of GB videos).

Basically, I started a video (in this case the video was: https://www.giantbomb.com/shows/we-be-truckin/2970-20030 but I tried this on a couple random older videos and had the exact same issue), but when I tapped the Full Screen icon in the lower right, it did not change the size of the video at all, and as a side effect, I could hear the audio continue as normal, but the video was frozen on the frame when I tapped Full Screen.

This does not seem to be an issue on my laptop (Windows 10, Firefox 74.0) however, I've only noticed it on the configuration I mentioned above.

Thanks in advance for looking into this!

Yeah, I know you can adjust the size, but if they could default back to the 3 lines or more that would make it much easier to see text at a glance while editing.

I agree, I liked the default text box size being bigger. Now I basically always have to expand each entry manually, as I'm usually writing more than a line of text.

Thanks for the in-depth write up of what sounds like an awful mish-mash of bad game design across the board. The prelude about the game lineage makes sense to me, I never enjoyed any of the SaGa games I tried (Unlimited Saga, which you mentioned, I remember giving up on pretty quickly) because their game design (especially the luck/randomness based components) was always a real turnoff to me.

FF2 was always the game in the series I had heard was pretty bad, but I had no real perspective as to why; this was a real eye-opener!

@redhotchilimist:

Yeah, Wild Guns Reloaded is still my dream game for them to do for this feature. I think it is just the right amount of difficulty, plus a hell of a fun game. Reloaded has infinite continues, so they could limit themselves to a 1CC run or something.

Shock Troopers for the Neo Geo. It's on every modern platform via Arcade Archives and it owns super hard. It's an arcade game, so no continues (or a predefined continue limit, like 3?), obviously.

Alternatively, I dunno, Metal Slug or something.

I just picked up that NeoGeo mini a couple days ago, and Shock Troopers (and a sequel, apparently, which I haven't tried yet) is on there. I had never heard of it before, and gave it a shot, are you are right, that game is awesome! Kinda reminds me of Jackal, but way better looking/sounding and with more interesting perspectives and such - probably not a coincidence that one of the playable characters is named Jackal, haha.

It might be a little easy for a This Is A Run, though? I managed to beat the game by myself on my third try (although maybe I picked an easy route? I went through Valley and then switched to Mountain halfway through)

I just picked this up on the cheap at Best Buy yesterday, so I’m down for challenges as well. I’m on the East Coast, USA, FYI.
