Games I Finished in 2018, pt. 2

Maybe someday I can have ordered lists with more than 100 items.

List items

  • Replayed this in anticipation of VC4.

  • I rarely replay RPGs, but the 3DS re-release gave me a good excuse to replay this 7 or 8 years after the fact. Still an awesome game that holds up really well!

  • Finally beat the last couple seasons of this on rogue mode - I found playing a little more carefully than normal and avoiding fights when necessary really helped.

  • Really liked the mechanics of this game, and it tells a touching little story as well.

  • Didn't love this, sort of a mediocre platformer honestly.

  • Excellent mix of narrative, fun characters, and puzzle solving. Wish the fighting / ingredient gathering felt a little less stiff though.

  • Really liked this game - did 2 playthroughs back-to-back to 100% everything.

  • What a weird game.

  • Honestly, one of the better bullet hell-style games I've played in a while. Managed to finish it on Easy and Normal, still working my way up the difficulties.

  • Liked this even more than Human Resource Machine (which I really enjoyed) - the threaded programming style of this makes for some really interesting puzzles, for sure.

  • Finally managed to beat the last boss of this doggone game after many, many attempts. Pretty fun roguelike(lite?), I liked all the different attacks for your loadout, and appreciated that a successful run isn't super long, which made me much more willing to restart the game when I goofed up.

  • I can't believe this game manages to stick the landing as well as it does (narratively speaking) - all the weird stuff comes together in a heartwrenching ending. I loved it, definitely my favorite thing SWERY has done.

  • An impressively designed puzzle game - my wife got super addicted to figuring everything out (I also really enjoyed it!).

  • I finished the base game of this last year, but the Donkey Kong adventure expansion came out this year, and is quite meaty (a good 8-10 hours, not even counting the Challenge levels that unlock at the end). Really enjoyed Donkey Kong's mechanics - being able to throw anything on the field and swing around makes him incredibly mobile & versatile.

  • This game was cool, felt like if Warioware was a minimalist platformer - lots of bite-sized (like under a minute) levels that encourage fast reactions.

  • This license is a great marriage to Yakuza gameplay mechanics - felt a little rougher than new Yakuza games, but still fun. I was very impressed that they made engaging combat where the focus is insta-kills, you'd think that would get boring fast.

  • I'm glad Jason did a quick look of this, it's a real hidden gem. And the difficulty really ramps up, for what is not a super-complicated game, mechanically. The level / enemy designs are very thoughtful, and your weapon loadouts really change how you play the game.

  • Just a fantastic experience all around.

  • Very iterative sequel, but I'm all for having more huge murder puzzle boxes to play around in. Still insanely fun.

  • Thank you to whomever kept mentioning this game during Extra Life, legitimately one of my favorite visual novels now. The multimedia presentation with tons of photographs and some FMV to boot is very unique and well-presented. The story itself is really intriguing, and does a great job of balancing serious and goofy moments.

  • Surprisingly good entry in the series.

  • Another programming-type game in the vein of Zachtronics' games, although this one is more like building circuits than programming code. I liked the game overall (didn't finish a few of the end puzzles, I'm too dumb), but I wish the difficultly curve didn't feel so flat (not sure if that's the right word, really). I think this is mainly because no new mechanics or ideas are really introduced over the course of the game - the tools you have at the end are the same as the start.

  • I appreciate the ambition of this game, but I think Runner 2 is still the sweet spot for me. Runner3 overextends itself with a lot of fetch quests and item collection where you have to replay levels multiple times. I also think it is a bit too difficult, honestly, for what I want out of a game like this.

  • Pretty good creepy visual novel / adventure game.

  • One of the best games ever! (See my GOTY list)

  • Really fantastic first VR experience! just a delightful game :)

  • Pretty average Metroidvania.

  • Really fun and pleasant farming-style game with a lot to do. Got almost every achievement!

@slag: Yeah, I honestly don't know where I find the time, haha. Probably doesn't hurt that I like to play a lot of smaller indie games though - looking through my list, that seems to be a big chunk of it.

I did finish some longer games like 70 hours worth of Octopath Traveler, a couple Yakuza games, Spider-Man, etc.
