So hey, my friends and I just picked up the game. I'm getting in a little newbie time over the weekend. Trying to learn the game. I'm at a point where I've just entered the desert maps for the first time.

Here's something I'm confused about. My magazines don't offer any tips so I thought I'd ask you guys. While running around in certain regions of the desert map (the brown/tan areas on the map), I start to lose health the as I spend time there. First, I made sure I wasn't wearing my coat and mittens anymore, but I seem to still be losing health.

Are they certain armor sets you gotta use in order to not be "too hot"? Or it doesn't matter and that's just the gameplay mechanic of those regions? I just assumed I'm suppose to wear lighter armor or something. The vests? Or go in with pajamas only? I have no idea.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

It really depends on the game.

Most games I'm just sitting down and reclined slightly back on the couch. Intense shooter require me to sit up and lean forward a bit. Still sitting down though. For Rockband, unless its the drums, I'm always standing. If I'm guitar and there's a footstool or a low coffee table nearby, one foot goes up on that. I don' t like to do vocals or guitars while sitting. Ruins the illusion. :)

@Lazyaza said:
" Like I said on the podcast comments, Paul Barnett is a man god.  Everyone here should watch this video presentation he did a while back where he talks about online gaming. Its over 19 minutes of Barnett-awesome-ness. "
Do you admire Paul because he's got a fun way of breaking things down and explaining it? Or do you like him because his ideas and input lead to great games? Just wondering because, while I enjoy listening to the man talk, the end result of his creative involvement on Warhammer Age of Reckoning didn't seem to be all that creative at all when standing next to its peers.  Or do you suppose he did give some great input on that game but someone higher up the command chain shot his suggestions down?

As someone who plays Warhammer Age of Reckoning, I can say that the game still has not solved some of the many problems that plague the advancement off MMOs or their ability to provide more "fun". In direct relationship to how I feel WAR came out, I'm skeptical about Paul and his abilities as a creative director. Part of me is thinking that all he's good at is talking and entertaining people.

It would be funny if the Bombcast crew tracked down the model that played the "Never" girl and see if they can get her to play some Wii.  See how persuasive the Bombcast can be.

Y'know, I enjoy Paul when he visits the Bombcast guys. His stories are indeed funny. But I gotta say, way back when I was looking forward to the release of Warhammer Age of Reckoning, he really annoyed me.  I mean, I'm cool with him now, but back then....whew.... when I wanted to know how the game played, wanted to hear anything that would let me get some sort of insight on gameplay....Paul was horrible on those Warhammer Videos.

How a regular spokesperson talks about a class: "This class is the healer support class that helps the party with Area Effect spells. The class also has a new mechanic we're introducing where if they ....."

How Paul talks about a class:  "This ...class ...is ...cool! This... class ...rocks! They...are...evil....they ....slice....people! They are cool! Did I mention they are cool? Well ...they.... are!"

Alright Paul, that's nice.....yeah that class is cool....yeah, its sexy, yeah it kills stuff......I get it.....yeah cool. Already heard you say its cool. BUT WTF DOES IT DO IN THE GAME!!!!  Is it dps? Does it have stealth? Support? Anti-nuker tank or anti-healer tank? What mechanic does it use? Rage? Fury? Combo Points? What? I don't know!!

By the way, ever walk into a Games Workshop store and the guy tries to get you to play a demo game? Say yes, and watch how they talk when they give the demo..... it's the same pitch style. Except, where Paul has energy and a sort of style that makes you laugh, the less charismatic redshirt dude just annoys you as he's yelling "...and Marines go BOOM BOOM...psheeew! Brakow! Those Orks fly into the air....PSHew Pshew!......okay now roll 5's or higher!"

Anyways, I know you all love Paul and I got a feeling I'm about to get flamed for saying anything bad about him. Please don't get me wrong. I think he's funny too. I love him when he's on Bombcast telling us about goofy stuff that he's seen or done. I'm just glad I don't have to rely on his WAR videos for info anymore. :)

I was fighting this one Ken player this one time. (I was playing Blanka) On the final round when I won .... the screen hadn't even faded to the next screen yet, was till on my win animation.....he messaged me something to the effect of "you f*%#king suck. you suck c*#@k!" Not sure what made me laugh more, the fact that he thinks I suck even though I beat him, the fact that one loss online enraged him so much, or his lightning speed at texting me. Perhaps the only skill of his that impressed me. Unless he has that message cut + pasted and ready to launch at all times.

As a long time player of many MMOs (including FFXI), here some overall things I'd like to see:

1.) Many MMOs coming out of Japan or Korea seem to be really light on character customization. That needs to end with FF14. Do they not think that aspect is important? Not sure what makes them not spend too much energy on that.

2.) Final Fantasy 11 was very grindy and tedious. That something that doesn't need to make its way over to FF14.

3.) Here's something all MMOs, not just the upcoming FF14, should be good at. That is, the aspect of being "Friend Friendly" .

MMOs are really hard on real life friends. Rarely is a group of buddies all able to have the same play hours and frequency of play sessions. Due to how levels work, the game eventually separates friends from one another. Leveling is just one thing.

Then there are the factions. Sometimes some friends want to play on one side (good or evil) and some friends want to play on the other. Sure, one could say true friends would all come to an agreement, but because they are GAMES, in which they pay to play.... even friends put their foot down on how they want to enjoy the game. If its playing Horde, then so be it. Now you have some friends on one side and some on the other with no way to have one character that can play with them both. Everquest 1 and 2 are cool in that evil and good characters can still hang out and do dungeons together. Warcraft...not at all.

Then there are servers. This is the easiest to solve. Simply e-mail everyone up and say, "guys....we're playing on Skull Throne....make your characters there." However, after a year of playing the game on one server, how do you play with someone on another server who has just recently become a new friend? This happens at work a lot. We're around the water cooler and someone finds out that you also play the same MMO. You're both excited to meet a fellow gamer but then its deflated when you both find out that you guys have level 60s on totally different servers. Well.....guess we'll never hang out then. What if you magically meet a girl that is also into gaming and she plays on another server? This happened to a friend of mine. Dude had to try and play two different characters, one for his girlfriend, and one for the old buddies and guildies he has been hanging with for years. Server isolation is a b!tch. Somehow this needs to be solved.  One of the reasons why I like Guild Wars was because it didn't have this problem.

4.) The Holy Trinity must end. I'm sick of the DPS, Tank, Healer roles. That needs to be buried. Or if kept, needs to be heavily overhauled so that it doesn't continue to still add the same problems to gameplay that the trinity usually does.

Anyways, those are my wishes.
