To me, this is nothing at all like Dan's attempt at a Punch out Series beyond the fact Punch Out is playyed in both. To me, this is more like Abby's version of Vinnyvania or Blue Bombin'. After beating this, I can see her playing through Super and the Wii one.
I hope I don't sound like a jerk, but a lot of people here and in the chat have been saying that this series is a repeat. Other people have pointed out, but others are saying it is the exact same thing as the old one. I don't understand how "Abby plays through Punch-Out, a game see never played through before" and "Dan, who played a ton of Punch Out but never beat Mike Tyson, will play specifically Tyson every day but oh wait, he beat him on the first day throwing all of Drew's hardwork out the window" are the same thing,
For everyone making the claim that the score is lessened because Dan loves Nintendo stuff, I encourage you to look at his past reviews of Nintendo games on this site. There are plenty of two and three star reviews, even for games that feature Mario.
I do respect and understand the annoyance of Dan on a "character" level in this. I am usually a person who is generally very much into Dan's routine, but I also am finding it cloying here. I especially do not like him changing Langzone. I mean, I get the joke, but I feel it wasn't a good joke. So, on a humor level, I feel like Dan is failing on this feature.
What I do not understand though is the accusations of him playing badly or selfishly. These critiques stuck out to me on the last video, but it was hard to defend him because he kept his dumb "I'm out for me" joke while playing. Still, jokes aside, it seemed like he was genuinely playing to win. He was very dedicated to fixing up the base and his mistakes in the mission seemed to be actual mistakes he just made jokes over. Plus, Vinny dying, as many have pointed out, was a weird glitch. And in this episode, he was really trying to win.
So, I guess I am of two minds here. On the level of play, Dan is doing the best. But this series exists to tell a story, so in that way he is doing the worst. And in an improv way, he is at least sticking to a gimmick.
@tikicobra: From historical patterns, a play date has just one game where a megadate has several games usually including a guest or a theme. There were a few other Megadates with no guests like an early one with Austin and the one where Abby is introduced to new experiences... and of course, ranch soda day.
