Rogue Galaxy was ps2 rpg released in 2006 in North America. Easily my favorite jrpg of all time. I've never interacted with another human being who was even aware of it though. I suspect releasing after the ps3 and xbox 360 was what made people overlook it.

Divinity: Dragon commander. I'm god awful at RTS but I love the concept of managing relations with all the factions on the ship.

Streets of rage 1/2. It deffinetley wasn't my first game, but the first one I remember.whichever one had the freddy Krueger clown as a boss.

Pillars of Eternity is a radical rpg. It combat splits the difference between dragon age and dungeons and dragons. It's world is neat in that it doesn't entirely revolve around you. Your playing a big part in the land your in yes but your not saving the world.
