Starting the new year on the right foot.

I had an idea at the end of 2011, then completely failed to even give the barest hint of trying to do it last year. So I'm committing to doing it this year. The idea was to write about all the games that I've started but haven't finished, and there are a lot. I'm also trying to incorporate an idea I had early (early) this morning, and that was to try get something written every day this year. I've long wanted to get into the industry, but aside from a brief stint doing volunteer writing for a lackluster fansite, I have been awful at ever writing anything, even though I have a freaking English degree. If nothing else, I'll get some exercise for my brain, which has been sorely lacking as of late. So anyway, I've put a list together of all the games I've started, but for whatever reason never got around to finishing. I will also include TV show write-ups for all the series that I've started. Maybe. That list will get posted tomorrow, but for now, this is my commitment to get off my figurative ass and makes steps to be a better writer. Wish me luck, duders.

@billygoat117: Good luck and god speed in your brave endeavour!

But if I can humbly offer my modest point of view, as I found myself in a similar situation a little while back.

Daily blogging will get very old very quick, and/or you'll find that you just end up writing about utter shit after a few weeks. Concentrate on noting down cool ideas/themes/things over a set period of time, or writing a collection of different 'features' which you can then collect into one larger piece at the end of a week or month (as I do). That's not to say that I really know what I'm talking about, or am any good at it (I'm not, on both accounts). Since you're wanting to work through a backlog, maybe try and find ways to tie groups of games together into one cohesive piece. For example, write about several FPS games in one go, not only analysing them individually but also within the context of their brethren.

Just my shit two cents.

Oh, and you call that a backlog? Here's about one quarter of mine:

@Fattony12000: Wow. Yeah, you got me beat by a fair margin. And those are really good ideas. At the very outset, I thought about daily blogging, but as far as this piece gores, yes, that would devolve all too quickly into so much bullshit. I would like to still try to write something every day, even if it's short or completely unrelated, just to stretch those muscles. So thanks for the input. As you said, I think I'd be best served by doing weekly write-ups, with stuff in between if the feeling strikes.
