The most apparent difference between roguelikes and roguelites is that most roguelikes have lips that hide their teeth when their mouths are closed while roguelites generally don't.
I'm so glad you guys liked the cabclub stuff, it's legitimately one of my favourite parts of the game (and the reward you get for finishing it off is VERY VERY VERY worthwhile.)
@whiitewalls: Cosigning what others have said, though I'll add that one of the great things about escalations is that they're generally much smaller undertakings than the main missions, especially once you develop a path/plan. That makes them a really nice way to squeeze in a little bit of Hitman here and there, i.e. as a reward for doing some work or whatever, without totally consuming the rest of your day/night.
@peregrin38: Absolutely true. For lack of a more precise word it can be hugely problematic, especially considering how common the "if I do this enough they'll eventually start to like it" kind of progression arc can be. That said it sort of only makes me want to press for more widespread adoption of the mechanic, because then the chances of increased subtlety or people with different approaches taking it on only increase, and I think a lot of those issues could be addressed in interesting ways. Like, there should absolutely be characters who don't want or even like to be touched, there should be characters who tell you to eff off until you're really really close, there should even be characters who just like maybe had a shitty day and would like a little distance please and thank you. A system where you had to react while a character was essentially skinshipping you would be great too. Its use has been relatively narrow so far, but that doesn't meant there's not potential to deal with a lot of those shortcomings. A skinship game jam would probably produce some amazing stuff.
