Abandoning missions in games like XCOM 2 and Darkest Dungeon can be very important. Im not sure this covers exactly what you're saying. It's not necessarily a win, but it's more of a win in being trapped in the idea that you either succeed completely or fail completely.
I also remember that mech game for the original xbox with the 200 button controller (steel battalion maybe?) had a mission which without more than some suggestive messages indicated you were supposed to flee the battlefield not stay and fight. I had a friend who assumed this was typical video game nonsense and had given up on playing the game for almost a year before witnessing someone (me) playing it and choosing to flee only to see this is what was required to progress the story.
Considering I think a lot of the games mentioned here have obvious flaws to go with their amazing strengths I am going to add
XCOM 2.
For anyone who really likes turn based tactical games, this is one of the absolute best that has ever been made. The customization, the randomized level designs, the constant tactical decisions on the map, the base and the tactical battlefield.... so satisfying!
Great post! I have been considering looking into this game myself. It's currently on sale and I havent had time for bigger games lately so this seems perfect
I play the online versus an embarrassing amount every year, so Im sure I will again. The core hockey itself has kept getting better. NHL 17 I havent bought yet, but Im sure I will.
I made it to a rescue mission and wiped trying to save a damn scientist... A car blew up next to two of them while another was stun-rodd'ed to death and the last had already been killed by me accidentally running them through advent soldier's overwatch.....
Just found out this week that the studio that made this game has shut down... It looks like if you search google you can still find a link to download the game but that's the only way to get it currently...
