@remilia_seven_fangs: I wrote about it elsewhere but the announcement and demo for Wiley Beast and Weakest Creature + play through Luna Nights really reminded me how much I love the Touhou series. I hadn't kept up with the series since Unidentified Fantastic Object came out and it's so weird and wonderful to com back to it and see that not only do the official games get put up for sale on Steam but so do tons of fan games!

EOSD is probably the one I've played the most of, if I had to guess, but the one I really want to finish next is Subterranean Animism. I've always loved Okuu's theme but I never liked how in SA your bombs and power were tied together...

Thank you for the welcome back! It's nice being able to write stuff about video games (and actually play them) after not being able to for so long! I'm actually doing a lot more writing in general this year but not so much about video games, so doing lists like these is always a nice outlet for me.

And thank you for leaving a comment, I'll have to remember to check out some of your lists from the past few years when I get the chance too!

@remilia_seven_fangs: I’ll be honest, I had pretty much given up on the idea of doing anything for GOTY stuff way, way earlier in the year (if the lack of entries on this list didn’t already make that clear) but after I got around to reading your comment I think I might try and do something after all!

So thanks for that! Truly! I’ve been feeling pretty terrible these past few weeks and I hope this’ll help a bit. Although, it might take a while to make since I’ve only got my phone right now and I really don’t like using it to write anything lengthy but I’ll try and manage!

I’ll also try and check out your lists too! I gotta get acclimated to how the mobile version of the site works first though...

@slag: I don't plan on leaving behind GB or anything! I just want a place to put my writing where I can easily show people. I've written a lot of stuff that's kinda spread across so many different platforms like my lists and blog posts here and steam reviews. I think having a website or a blog somewhere outside of the site would be a nice place to sort of corral it all together! It's less about the content of what I wanna write about (I feel like I've seen enough threads get locked to know what doesn't fly around here anyway) and more about keeping it one place. I'll try to cross-post stuff if it seems appropriate but I don't planning on leaving anytime soon! I appreciate your advice and guidance though!

@remilia_seven_fangs: Thank you for the kind words! I do wanna work harder this year but I'll have to try to remember to take it easy on myself too! I do often forget that I have quite a few friends online (I've actually made quite a few new friends last year too!) but I'm pretty bad at starting conversations so that's something I'd like to work on for 2017. I would definitely like to chat with you more often, or at the very least more often than once a year! Again, thank you and I hope you have a great year too!

@slag: I totally understand wanting to distance yourself from the game or making your stance on how you feel about the subject matter very clear, especially in this case. I agree with you that the public discourse surrounding these topics definitely has a long way to go before it can be discussed without issue. I also noticed that last year there were quite a few games (both Japanese and Western) with erotic content have been released on Steam without that stuff being removed. At the same time, plenty of other games come out with that stuff cut and have official patches so you can put it back in if you so chose. Although, it's bit hard to say if releasing "censored" versions is the only way to get them onto Steam or if it's just a safety precaution taken by developer/publishers.

I would assume the version of the first game would be the DS version since that's the only one that came out over here. I'm still working my way through Spirit of Justice and there are a few quality of life things I'll miss like the message log and consultations. It's been a while since I've played 'em but I'm fairly confident they'll hold up well!

I've actually been looking into starting a Wordpress blog or something so I can write more freely and more often. Maybe once I get that set up I'll try and get a curator page going for it too! I'll try and let you know if I ever get the ball rolling on that.

I don't think I got a notification for your list so I'll have to go and check that out! Thanks for letting me know!

@slag: First off, thanks for the well wishes, I've actually been doing pretty well as far as my existing conditions are concerned! There have been a few major incidents here and there but it's certainly a lot less of a problem than it used to be and I'm thankful for that.

On the topic of euphoria, I'm not at all upset with you voicing your concern about it's placement here. I was initially hesitant to even put it on my list at all as I understand that sexual assault/violence is a very real and extremely damaging thing that is far too common. I didn't really want to bring it up because it was featured so heavily in the game but I thought it was remarkable that a game, especially one in a niche where the subject is often treated so flippantly or without care, could acknowledge how harmful it is and sort of build a story around it even if it did occasionally falter. Eventually I decided that as long as I was upfront and honest about why I enjoyed the game it'd be fine. Although in hindsight I probably should've put a content warning about it beforehand.

Again, thank you for telling me it made you uncomfortable and I'd like to apologize if it brought up any unpleasant memories! I don't really have any experience talking or writing about this sort of thing but I'd never have any if I continued to avoid talking about it. I'll try to be better about it in the future!

I'm actually very excited to get back to Lightning Returns! I came to realize that completing main story objectives always gives you an extra day and I feel like I really missed out on a lot by not knowing that. I've also played a bit of Spirit of Justice and I'm really enjoying it so far! I've also looked into some of the other games in the series and I think I might try to find a copy of Apollo Justice once I'm finished with SoJ and that HD Trilogy.

Yeah, Soft Body is such a brilliantly designed game. I feel like I could have written twice as much here about it if I allowed myself to. I'm consistently surprised by my ability to find games that get barely any coverage that I absolutely love.

I actually haven't been paying too much attention to other people's end of year lists as I was working hard on my own. Have you done one yet? I'd love to see it!

Nice list Slag! Looking over your entries made me realize I don't think I've ever bought a system for a single game! When I was younger and got consoles/handhelds it was always because I wanted something to play video games on and less so that I wanted to play that game. Recently though, it's always been a case of never having enough money to justify spending on a single system. Otherwise I would have 'em all!

Although, I actually bought a 2DS a couple of days ago because it was pretty cheap and I couldn't find a place near me where I could buy a Vita. I don't really know what the "killer apps" for it are so seeing Fire Emblem here is pretty helpful for me! Also, I had no idea this thing could play DS games so thanks for that info!

@trelution: You're right in thinking that adding +3 to their ship's health would have saved them there but considering the circumstances it was literally impossible for them to do so.

The point you mentioned (51 mins in) the guys only had 3 dice to roll and the repair arm costs 5 research points. With only 3 dice, they only had a chance of getting up to 3 research points!

But even if Alex hadn't (mistakenly) put his two 3's into the maintenance module (which gave him 2 ship health) they went into that section of the ship with 3 health and 6 impending damage. The only way they could have made it out alive was if they gained 4 health without repairing the ship or 2 health and repairing the ship.

Even with perfect rolls and the same amount of dice and research options at their disposal they were pretty much DOA at the start of that turn!

Where is the archive of the last episode? I don't see it under Videos -> Premium. The latest episode on there besides this one is 11/20/2015.

For some reason, the last episode of the Life is Strange Playdate is in the 'Quick Looks' tab. Not sure why though. Maybe somebody accidentally tagged is as one?

@gendergenerator: I don't mind a little grind! I haven't seen or played through any of the Sagas in a while so if the gameplay is good enough I'll probably stick with Xenoverse just so I can see all that stuff again. Nice to hear that you like the character creator too. I always end spending a lot more time fiddling around with them than I'd care to admit!

I've only heard Austin's thoughts from the GotY podcasts but I haven't read that article, thanks for the link! Cibele's definitely a game that lives or dies by how much the player can relate to the story being told. I think it's an interesting and a very personal game that's a bit reflective too. It's very cool that more games like it are being made and released!

From the little I've heard about We Know The Devil it seems like it's kind of a similar experience? I'll have to check that out soon too!

Thanks for your reply and I hope you're having a good year so far!
