I started Return of the Obra Dinn. It’s really clever and well made! It also makes me feel dumb. It’s not unlike Outer Wilds in that way!

If I made a "Top 10 Best Games I Couldn't Get Into" both of them would be on it.

I admire the hell out of them both, and I threw myself at them multiple times.

Oh man. 13 Sentinels is a LOT. In a good way? It's been awhile since a game has rattled around in my mind this much when I'm not playing it. There's time travel and loops and I'm having a hard time keeping it all straight, but I'm digging it. It's non-linear and....it's a lot.

It's not as horny as I thought it might be. I'm digging the city defense combat more than I thought I might too. This would have been high on my top 10 had I played it last year.

Played a few rounds. The racing, platforming, and soccer maps are pretty fun. Don't love the one where you're grabbing tails and trying to have the most when time is up.

Might be fun to pick up and play here and there.

Darkest Dungeon, with Stardew Valley just a fart behind it.

@nutter:

I think a lot of it for me was that I didn't find the combat to be enjoyable and I didn't want to put that effort in to make it work. 3rd person action is definitely not a genre I play much at all (esp with shooting) so I'm just not inherently very good at it. Some games I was able to push through on (Outer Worlds for example) but there's just something about the way Remedy does combat that just does not click for me.

But damn that game is cool. Lots of styyyyyyyle.

"He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man."

I thought of this character and this quote very early on in this game, and they stayed with me throughout.

It's a special game. I can understand how some of the writing might rub people the wrong way, but I loved playing the detective who is an absolute shambling train wreck of a person, barely keeping it together. I thought the writing was terrific. The dialogue and story feel adult and not in the "lol boobs and guns hell yeah" way. Also, Kim is the best.

I played as a high empathy/high inland empire character, so I was more cosmically trippy than brutally violent. I may play the game again and go the other way just to see how it goes.

Oh, and finally getting to successfully sing karaoke? Best moment of the year.

Been looking forward to Ooblets since it was announced. It looks charming as hell, like an Animal Crossing/Pokemon mashup with card-based dance battles. It's a shame the conversation around the game got incredibly toxic this year due to all of the dumb Epic Game Store nonsense.

Also psyched for Hades and Griftlands to go 1.0

I hate myself for saying it but untitled goose game

The game has tons of charm and personality. The goose animates beautifully, and harassing people is real fun. The actual structured part of the game with the objectives I found to be pretty dull.

Then I bought Okami (for the 3rd time) at $15 and replayed it (for the 6th time) and realized I should have just done that originally!

I always say that Okami is the best 3d Zelda ever made.

@bmaxwell: Control Alan Wake’d me too, but in the best way possible.

Alan Wake was one of my favorite games of its generation, and Control is one of my favorites of this generation.

This is my favorite kind of Remedy game.

Control seems to be working for a lot of people. I'm genuinely glad; there is SO much good stuff there. I wish they'd put difficulty options into the game so I can just breeze through the combat and engage with the good stuff.
