GOTY 2022

This is it, my list of my favorite games I played in 2022 in some sort of almost semblance of order.

List items

  • This game is exactly what I have been hoping for years now to get. Those original TMNT Beat 'em ups are some of my favorite games of all time. I got very excited when the game was originally announced and I feel like it pretty much lived up to my expectations.

  • This game seems to get hate on this site, and I really can not understand why. I actually enjoy the Horizon games more than I do God of War. I think the game is gorgeous, and the tech they used to get the mouths to move in such a realistic way was pretty mind blowing. I also felt like the combat and traversal were more fun this time around, although just as was the case with the first game, the combat did get tiresome by the time I was done with it.

  • I am not sure what could be said about Vampire Survivors that hasn't been already. I fell in love with this when it was very first released in Early Access and continued to love it in to full release.

  • A collection with some of my favorite games of all time on it? Sign me up. This collection is basically a love letter to my childhood and the nostalgia of it keeps me playing it.

  • This game came out of actually nowhere for me. I did see that initial trailer, but I assumed I would get very annoyed by the humor of it and pass. Well I gave it a shot anyway and I ended up having WAY more fun with it than I thought I would. The humor still got on my nerves fairly often, but I did actually also laugh out loud at some of it. The length hit a perfect spot for me too.

  • I have a lot of love for the Monkey Island series, and an interesting path through them. I actually played Escape From Monkey Island on the PS2 first, which is probably considered one of the worst games in the series. Despite that I fell in love with it and then moved backwards in to Curse of Monkey Island on PC, which is still my favorite in the series. After that I went on to play the first and second games followed by the newer TellTale games. I randomly get the theme stuck in my head, even without hearing it for really long periods of time.

Well, imagine my surprise when a new game in the series was announced. I was so excited I went ahead and pre-ordered it as soon as it was possible to do so. Despite my excitement, I still have yet to finish this game. Being an adult now instead of a kid like my experiences with the early games I find it harder to be able to sit down and finish games like I used to. Even though I have not finished it though I am still really enjoying my time with it.

  • This game came out of nowhere for me for sure. I had heard things about it in early access and people loving it, but I didn't even really look in to it much myself. Well it came to Game Pass when it fully released so I decided to give it a shot. I have no idea why I was so addicted to playing it, but somehow I lost a lot of time diving in to this. It kind of became my "podcast" or "TV show" game that I would zone out to while doing those things.
