well That was Ys-y (and a hilarious anecdote on why FF9 is bad.)

BOX ART BECAUSE I WENT TO THE WIKI PAGE AND THERE IS NO SCREENSHOTS OF THE GAME SO THIS IS ALL YOU GET! IT'S NOT EVEN THE RIGHT GAME! I MEAN I PLAYED THE SNES VERSION NOT GENESIS! FUCK!
BOX ART BECAUSE I WENT TO THE WIKI PAGE AND THERE IS NO SCREENSHOTS OF THE GAME SO THIS IS ALL YOU GET! IT'S NOT EVEN THE RIGHT GAME! I MEAN I PLAYED THE SNES VERSION NOT GENESIS! FUCK!
When I was a wee lad, I avidly subscribed to Nintendo Power, every issue that arrived was another excuse to ask my parents to bend to my will and buy me something. One month was particularly exciting. The Big Book of Super Nintendo! So many pages of gamesgamesgames to look forward to! I would read it cover to cover. Constantly, making a check list of all the games that looked exciting to me based off of screen shot alone. I don't think I've gotten through the entire list, but there's one game that I recently finally
played.

That entire First paragraph was a ruse. You see, The game I've played was none other than Ys III and to be honest, there's absolutely nothing to talk about with this game. It's too easy... Maybe in my youth I could have enjoyed it and thought of it as a challenge. But I leveled up to the maximum (which is 16) in the first stage. (out of boredom) Then I proceeded to breeze through the game, holding onto the attack button, because it was practically rapid fire.

I'm actually surprised that it took me this long to play this game, because it was practically over in a sitting. I could have done it in all one go, but I seem to only play video games from late hours of the night to the early mornings. And I could have sworn at some point I fell asleep.

But it was there, and it was gone. There was a story too, You show up in a town, and then you help them out. And Then Garland shows up, and then you beat him and then a more evil evil shows up, and then you beat that. All the while getting the impression that EVERYBODY TALKS LIKE THIS.

End of Act 1.

 I Find, that I like Amano's Artwork.
 I Find, that I like Amano's Artwork.

So to feed my appetite for another video game to play. I looked towards Final Fantasy IX to fill that void. Here's a fun fact though, My first experience with the game, I beat it. That's right, I curiously explore the game through someone else's save file, and it just happened to be at the very end of the game.

I was actually disappointed by the ending. But maybe that had to do with how easy the final boss was. Because as the ending continued to unfold afterwards... the PS2 died. Then the friend whom I borrowed it from was very upset with me. That aside I also feel like it is a very ugly looking game. As if they tried to add a level of detail to it that my mind refuses to enjoy. All the characters are stupid looking too, and I'm saying that as immature as possible.

What I do enjoy is the little moments of dialogue, and the ability to rename everyone still makes my day. Playing through the game with characters like Dave, Steve, Candy and Helen always adds a new level of enjoyment for some reason.

I suppose I should get back to it for now. As low as this game is on the list of Final Fantasies I enjoy, I've just made it to Disc 2. So I might as well keep going.

Fin.

That pun is fantastic. Anyway, wasn't Ys III one where you had to run into enemies? I know they changed it at some point, but I forget if they did it with III or IV. Regardless, it's kind of crazy how games are sometimes surprisingly short like that, and I'm sure you're glad you didn't pay full price for it back in the day.

@Xeiphyer: I'll give you a hint: They're all about Garland.

Personally, Final Fantasy IX is one of my favorites. Maybe it's because it came right after FFVIII, which was one of my least favorite.

@Sleepy_Insomniac:  IV is the one where you run into enemies. I know this because I tried that one for a bit. I was very Disappointed afterward. and yeah III was too short of a game for me to enjoy. so yeah.. I wouldn't want to buy it ever.

@Xeiphyer:

@Tebbit: I laughed at that statement, and then pretty much agreed.  There's also a lot of things about VIII I didn't enjoy.

I loved everything about FFIX except the characters. Unfortunately that's kinda a big deal.

I loved Final Fantasy IX, but the game managed to freeze up on me Post-killing-final-boss, but before the ending.  Years later I found the ending on Youtube and discovered that

Haven't had the heart to play through it again since.

Wait, you started at the ending? The hell is wrong with you? I'd suggest playing the game from the beginning, just so you know what's going on. Besides, it's a pretty good game.

I loved IX. I even finished the chocobo sidequest thing. Also, the second from last boss has some absolutely kick-ass music.

I really liked the locations and the way the AP were handled. It was great.

Oh the card game was cool, too.

Being able to rename all the different characters you can use (again) is indeed a great plus to the game(FFIX)
ApeBoy is always my name for Zidane.

@RecSpec:  In what way? I do hate the way they look and Steiner is pretty much a fucktard.

@Make_Me_Mad: yeah, I can see that. I mean, the PS2 died right after I defeated the final boss. So I'm technically in the clear, to finding out what or how it happens :P

@Video_Game_King: You ever read the end of a book, before you read the whole thing? Sometimes if the Ending is good enough it sparks a lot of interest in what it took to get there.

@DarkShaper: So far my favorite thing about the game is NPCs

@TheLegendofLuke: Yeah, the card game is actually excellent this time around and thoroughly enjoy it

@ZeForgotten: Zidane is ugly looking enough to be an ape :D

No, I generally don't do that. Seems like an odd way to ruin a book.

The emotional impact is. Don't believe me? Try crying over Aeris' death now that you know about it.

@Video_Game_King: Are you kidding me, when I reached that part in 7 I could've cared less, Aeris was a useless character. If I skipped ahead to the part near the end where I learn more about her, it probably would have affected me.

Wait, did you know about her death before, or did it catch you off-guard? That's the whole point of this hypothetical.

Oh hey, I know a game you could play~

And FFIX's final boss was either super easy or super cheap. One time he would keep spamming his damn malboro-breath-on-steroids move that would give you every debuff and doom etc, other times he'd never touch that spell. I absolutely hate boss encounters that rely on "Wheel of Fortune" mechanics (ie. bosses with spells that instantly kill, for example. They might never use them, they might constantly use it, and it all seems to be based on chance), grr.

But I felt the ending for IX had a good pay off storywise and left me happily in tears cause it was all romantic and stuff.

As for Ys... yeah... your bad pun was better than any of the games in the series I've tried :P

Psst, you're wasting your time, VGK. Bon is one of those guys who refuses to ever show his emotions, hitting himself and yelling "I don't feel anything!" whenever anything tries to pull at his heartstrings.

Also, reading a book ending first is dumb.

...

...

...

Okay, so I've done that with anime where I will do a quick glance of the final episode to make sure it's not a tragedy or a total tease, cause I'm tired of so many romantic anime serieseses (yes that's a word, look it up) having absolutely no payoff at the end (eg. Love Hin, though that's not a good anime, but anyone who's seen it knows that it's a poster child for being a total tease).

@Video_Game_King:  Well that's technically not fair, I'll never play Fire Emblem because I can't enjoy them for the life of me. But if it's any consolation I now would like to know what Dierdre's deal is.

@Symphony: Daw, well I'm giving Zidane and Garnet a chance to prove themselves to me. hoping that my opinion of the game will change by the time I make it to the ending again :P

Come on dude. Vivi's entire story arc centers around him struggling with his mortality, and toward the end of the game he starts to accept it and be happy. I thought it was a very nice way for his story to end.

Amnesia. Manfroy wiped her memory clean and dumped her on Alvis' front door with a note pinned to her dress. That note: "Tap this." I should also mention that it was pinned to her ass.

I'm not saying it was a bad thing, by any means.  I'm just saying that I am way too much of a baby to play through the game again, seeing all the awesome-happy-Vivi-times knowing what's coming.   Much the same way that I only play Silent Hill 3 up to Heather's front door these days.  Because that is where the game ended.
