My Game of the Year 2024

It was a weird year for games for me. I did a lot of back log and games that I have been looking to play for a while and finally got like the Castlevania DS games. This also with my staples DOTA 2, Marvel Snap, and Overwatch 2. I also got into Apex legends again for about 2 months which I enjoyed as well. Heres the list. Wrote my thoughts as I am writing them as opposed to last year when I wrote them shortly after finishing the game.

29. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone GBA

Game is short quick fun, however it has some frustrating parts, and repetitive environments

28. Psi Ops The mindgate conspiracy

Neat game a lot of fun, good ideas. Can be pretty hard at times

27. Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

Definitely my least favorite Castlevania games. Really disliked the weapon system didn’t feel rewarding since you stuck with the same weapon most of the game. Also pretty hard early on you need to grind a bit to get past a lot of the bosses

26. GTA Chinatown Wars

This is a game where if I played it when it came out I feel like I would have liked it better. Its well made, just missing some luster

25. Retro City Rampage

Played this back in the day and beat it. It has a lot of personality and a lot to do very fun.

24. Rugrats Adventure in Game Land

Solid platformer, does have some frustrating parts, but overall fine game I wish it was longer it is pretty short

23. Star Wars Hunters

Enjoyed my time with this one for about a month. I feel off of it. There is something here, maybe if getting the characters didn’t take so long would have played it longer

22. Hotline Miami

Played this as well back in the day and beat it. Super fun had a great time, The colors and effects can hurt your eyes. Also might have been higher if this was a full play through, instead of picking up a save, much like Retro City

21. Saints Row Gat out of Hell

I was in the mood for more Saints row and got it with this, not much to say, if you want more Saints rows this is a lot of fun

20. Rogue Legacy 2

I like this one a lot had a good time. I will say some of the missions are extremely hard to figure out.

19. Metroid Zero: Mission

Solid Metroid, I like this one more than fusion. Great game

18. Luigi's Mansion 3DS

Great game, had a lot of fun. Its really short too only real flaw about this.

17. Final Fantasy 1 pixel remaster

Seems like the right way to play this game on the pixel remaster. Its a lot of fun with the auto battles to ease the way through this game. At times it does feel like an auto RPG and thats a good thing.

16. Cadence of Hyrule

Great music, fun game, it does take a while to figure out the rhythm and how to play the game if that makes sense

15. Rollercoaster Tycoon Classic

Big RTC fan playing it on Switch and its exactly it great port though it can use some enhancements when it comes to controls. Its almost perfect

14. Overcooked

Great game had a lot of fun with this with my girlfriend, I wish there was more variety in the foods

13. Dragon Quest 3 HD 2

Still playing this, enjoying this and was really enjoying it. About half way through and hit a wall got really hard. A bit frustrated with it right now.

12. Two Point Campus

I really like this game lots of variety with the classes. However it feels the same everytime I played a scenario. Had the same items and rooms.

11. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

Excellent game, really enjoyed this one.

10. Powerslave Exhumed

Really really cool game. Its Metroid Prime before Metroid Prime.

9. Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin

My favorite of the DS series great game, really good music and like that they added missions in this one

8. The Messenger

Fantastic game even if you know the surprise its still really cool.

7. Overcooked 2

Had a blast with this one with my girlfriend was well. I will say that I wish there was an endless more for a high score

6. Dragon Quest Builders 2

Really liked this game, very addictive, the story is way too long and extremely boring

5. FF 7 remake

Awesome game took my 3 years to beat it. One of the best final boss sequences of all time

4. Okami

Fantastic game, finally beat it after playing it as a kid on PS2. Played the HD verision however it does the need Skyward Sword HD treatment of collecting items. That was very annoying.

3. Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door

After all the talk I heard about this game over the years it does hold up extremely well. Fun combat and fun story. I will say that it can drag at times with the Bower sections that are pointless and the Peach sections

2. NES Championship

Very addictive and a lot fo fun. However there does seem to be a delay in the controls on this especially with the Mario titles.

1. Hogwarts Legacy

I like this game the best of the year. I played on Switch and i will say I would have enjoyed this more on a more powerful console, however the Switch game is very impressive. Fun combat, interesting story, and a lot to do. My only complaints would be the Switch load times and performance, but you get used to the performance.
