Toppu-Tenno... GOOOOOOOO!

List items

  • Despite being bitten by the patch bug, I had already S-ranked the achievements. Starting over again wasn't anything to complain about. Adventure is ready, it's Gomez time.

  • Chirp.

  • As someone who literally bit my nails waiting for a Steam sale on XCom, and re-listening to the Bombcast segments again and again, I'm still biting my nails when trying to stretch my in-game money and resources juuuuuust far enough to afford that next plasma upgrade.

I find the original XCom games impenetrable, and am glad we've evolved as a species to reach this level of technology.

  • I was lucky to open this Christmas Day (which *just happens* to be the story's starting date) to really break in my 3DS XL. I basically haven't stopped playing it since, and am just wrapping my head around the mechanics and backstory. As a devotee of 999, and being initially very sceptical about the polygons and cast of this sequel, I can tell they're doing right by the franchise.

  • I waited. Patience is rewarded.

  • I like my ten-milly. Here's hoping this starts a trend.

  • I replaced Mark of the Ninja with this, as I played far more of Dust. They are both remarkably accessible accomplishments, but I feel Dust goes beyond the pure mechanics of an excellent stealth game. Ninja does one thing incredibly well, Dust does many things quite well.

  • It took me a while to dive in to FTL, despite watching people around me become consumed with it. I have two profiles: a cheater's lament, and an honest run. They're both worth keeping installed. There is a lot about the game mechanics I wish was more rewarding and less random, in much the way I try to enjoy XCom, but the fact that the community provides for these "mods" is the bonus that makes FTL worth playing however one chooses to.

  • I know I want to finish Dishonored. It has the right balance of unexplained quirk, unmitigated badassery, and homages to other excellent games of days past.

  • I'm actually not a big fan of zombie horror as fiction. Despite originating from African culture, I think zombies are the modern gothic Americana horror, and I prefer more classic and mystical types of gothic horror. I do however think they make for excellent video games. And after playing Jurassic Park, I'm very glad Telltale still makes excellent video games.

It's also kinda nice that absolutely nobody cares that all the achievement points are pure story progression. Because unlike 2006 games, this is one you want to experience the story.
