Just listened to the Assassin's Creed discovery, and I have to say I'm disappointed with the crew's blaming of the censorship on Judeo-Christian/western values as if that were some monolithic value system. Also, some of the depictions in the game are literal ancient pornography. Does the gang oppose censoring this material as well, or has the passage of time made transformed these works into art? Not to mention the fact they didn't discuss any of the non-nudity censorship/revisionism which is at least equally worthy of criticism for distorting the value system of the historical period the game is purporting to represent. There was a good discussion to be had here, but I think Vinny in particular just wanted ubisoft to conform to his beliefs about nudity.

This is a year where I feel like my opinions are definitely out of the norm:

1. Diablo III: Necromancer DLC (the only way I can fit D3 which I played for the first time this year on a 2017 list)

2. Assassin's Creed Origins - never would've guessed I'd think an ass creed game is (a) good; and (b) better than zelda and horizon

3. Forza 7 - never played prior games in the series, so tracks feel fresh and look amazing and the whole mod/car collection thing is overblown imo.

4. Resident Evil VII - has its issues, but translated the series to 1st person well and is much improved over 6

5. Metroid: Samus Returns - great remake of an underappreciated game and a good swan song for 3DS

6. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - definitely not as on board with this game as some people seem to be, but I enjoyed playing through it

7. Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ - best non-zelda launch game; great portable switch game

8. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - If I were someone who hadn't already played MK8 to death on Wii U, this would be my number 1. Mind-blowing to have it in truly portable form.

9. South Park: Fractured But Whole - still feels just like the show and the battles are moderately improve, but doesn't quite hit the highs of the 1st game.

10. Splatoon 2 - Not as big an update as I'd hoped, but still has what made the original fun

Games I've played/am playing, and liked, but didn't play enough of to put on the list: Super Mario Odyssey, Persona 5, Cuphead, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Dragon Quest VIII 3DS

Broke through a wall tonight...had the s12 uliana's set but wasn't really mowing shit down. rerolled some inna's stuff and cubed crude boots and somehow jumped 10 gr levels and finished the season section i was on. Gotta say, seasons provide just enough reasons and goals to get back on the loot treadmill.

I just finished and I agree about the story. I think part of the problem with the pacing is how the world opens up. I spent a lot of time between the early assassinations doing side quests and exploring, and by the time I decided to finish the main quest I was so high level I could just plow through the main quest with ease. Going through these quests back to back to back exposes how slapdash the final act of the game is. It’s a revolving door of new people and motivations that should’ve been introduced earlier in the story. If I would’ve been forced to engage with the side quests in later areas (by being discouraged from lingering in early areas), it might’ve fleshed out these characters more...

I wasn't a diablo fan back when d3 first came out, so I didn't appreciate how shitty it was at launch 5-6 years ago. The idea of only being able to run parts of the campaign over and over sounds awful. Adventure mode and seasons save the game, imo.

Just wanted to say I circled back to this with the necro pack and now season 12. I "get it" now...it's very addictive once you understand the progression loop, optimize your gear as best you can, and then just get in there and wreck shit. lots of different combinations to mess with. Looks great on xb1x too.

Tried kotor on this earlier. It’s pretty damn cool, even if I could’ve just played it before on pc. Looked good even on an s, so I bet it looks really nice on an x. My Scorpio hype is rising.

I hope this gets mentioned on the bombcast/beastcast next week. I think it's at least as relevant to video game news as some of the PewDiePie stuff considering the number of stories that have been sourced from gaf over the years.

Looking for a clan on XB1, and not sure if the ones listed in the first post have openings/are still active. XBL name is braves001.
