The only thing that bothers me is when I open it up every couple months and see a dozen games I planned to buy just there to play. That is a great deal of money I saved in a flash, but...I feel like shit. I don't understand how I can be supporting the devs and the hard work they put in for years by devouring content in this way, because I lack the knowledge to work out how much money devs make having their games available day 1 or week 1 or month 1, whatever, on XGP. Finishing a dozen very recent games for $10 almost feels like stealing when most of them cost that much or usually more to buy individually.

I can easily afford to support them the way I want, buying a bunch of games every month the old fashioned way, and finishing them over the next few weeks 'til I do the same next month with a new bunch of games. Game pass is just so attractive, it's tricky to resist the value sometimes.

Escaped twice in a row on my 15th and 16th attempts, what an amazing feeling. This has become yet another brilliant Supergiant classic in my heart. Great game.

I love the aegis shield, it's my go-to at the moment. The +500% damage upgrade on the charge attack, attacks hit twice upgrade, Artemis' cast levelled 'til the damage crit is ridiculous, the Athena dash deflect, and the Artemis boon where you release an auto arrow after every attack usually makes me highly likely to escape. I can usually get to the last boss with all my 'lives' using that loudout, which helps massively ofc. The Dionysus Call might be my favourite, not so keen on the others.

Now I'm collecting diamonds and improving my relationships with everyone. Maxed out my relationship with Charon MEGA early, maybe my 15th run also? expecting it to give me a big discount or something. I don't think it's had much of an effect? Something happened when I did something in his 'shop' a couple runs later which I successfully got through, but I'm not sure if our close bond triggered it or it always happens?

I could see them releasing a new add-on for $20-25 every six months or something, sure. I suspect it's going to be 3 + 4 as one seperate release next year, though, then THUG 1 + 2 after that. Doubt they'll touch American Wasteland, Project 8 or Proving Ground but who knows.

Maybe there'll be lots of options: standalones, add-ons, but there's gotta be a disc version, surely, then an ultimate collection at some point.

I think all the games will sell very decently indeed. This one has cracked a million already I think, so I'm sure we'll see 3 through to THUG 2 released with this level of treatment.

@skullomania: he's quite brown in some scenes, that's where the confusion was, and the character/person is def non-white historically, but it's probably a whitewash, yeah.

Does El Shaddai count, or is that rendition of Enoch basically whitewashed? I am finding it a little tricky to pin down.

@ntm: I had absolutely no idea Jeff liked it. I love the RJD2 soundtrack and yeah, the voice acting is very decent indeed. For some reason I thought he was negative about it on a demo derby or something...? I love it though and always do a yearly google search about a sequel.

Some great mentions, Heaven's Vault and Walking Dead perhaps having my two modern favourite non-white protagonists ever. It is pretty fucking embarassing how few examples there are... Shit tonnes of side-characters, which is more embarassing. We could probably name over 100 in a flash...

Few more:

Broken Age

HL: Alyx

Marc Ecko's Getting Up (genuinely enjoy this game but it's regarded pretty divisively)

@justin258: Good post, and that video explores just how clever the game is beneath its primal terror. Def in my top 20 of all time. Obsidian's Grounded looks like it could possibly be taking some important cues from it, which is promising, because I'm gagging for more terrifying survival games with a big story goal to aim for.

Alien Isolation's xenomorph could have been an easy top 5 for me if they had just managed to tame its randomness out of the unrealistic and into the alien-but-still-believable.

Sports games have more varied and adjustable mechanics that can be more easily cranked to give players an artifical sense of difficulty, yes. Guitar Hero and DDR are also harder with cheats and super speed on. Dark Souls is very carefully balanced most of the time (internal logic), to be more consistent with its game world (external logic), jank aside.

It is a bit like saying a cheetah is faster than a dog. It's just an unbalanced comparison with a fairly obvious (no offence at all) victor, even if the two things in discussion are still [relevant adjective] in the context of their own ecosystem.

You can simplify and interpret my response that way, I have no issue with that. I think words like "easier" or "harder" are a bit too limiting, is all. I find sports games more complex, definitely, and the way they balance systems and A.I. skew very hard one way in their "pro" modes.
