My first Final Fantasy was Final Fantasy IV, and while I love it, it definitely isn't my favorite. I've beaten all of the Final Fantasy games (not including FFXI of course), and I have to say that IX is my favorite. Why do I like it? Because it combined what I loved about the old Final Fantasy games (I-VI) and the new (VII-VIII). However, I enjoyed most of the other FF games with the exception of II, XI, and XII. None of those were bad games, but I found them all disappointing. FFII was quite innovative, but the gameplay is broken in many respects. FFXI, I couldn't stand for long because it was a grindfest, and didn't feel like Final Fantasy. FFXII just didn't have the heart of previous games, and I'm guessing that's partly due to the fact that the original director left midway through the product, and was replaced by the producer of the horrible Saga series. If we were to count FFT, I'd maybe even place that above FFIX. But I have to say, excellent pick with FFX. That game definitely had a moving story and new gameplay elements, but retained much of what I liked about the series.
If they actually did make a game on the Iraq "war," I hope they'd at least detail the lives of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians who were harmed in addition to making an effort to show the lives of an actual soldier.
Mine used to be Square, until they merged with Enix. I also was a big Bungie and Blizzard fan for awhile, but I'm beginning to lose faith in both companies. Currently, I don't really have a favorite game developer.
