I enjoyed the heck out of this and am all for ordering more Voidburgers for Hot Takeout (I don't do delivery; I can pick it up).
I don't like the movie, but I like some aspects of it, and I agree it should be considered canon in the same way the games are.
I didn't know Nintendo was involved in the Detective Pikachu movie, as I thought all things Pokemon are handled by the Pokemon Company (with Nintendo as their chief distributor).
I have a friend who co-hosts a podcast covering Daria. It's called Morgendorks, and I have been watching along with them. Mike Judge had no involvement in that show, as Daria was created by another writer on Beavis & Butt-Head.
Speaking of which, not only did they announce a new Beavis & Butt-Head series for Comedy Central, but also a new movie for Paramount Plus, at which point I will get a free trial just for that.
The first Austin Powers came out in 1997, followed by the second movie in '99, and the third in '02.
Trent Reznor indeed has an Oscar for scoring Thr Social Network, but hasn't won for Soul yet because this year's Oscars don't happen for another three weeks.
The gun in Shadows of the Damned had an English accent to my knowledge, and then later, on this week's Beastcast, Alex says the book sounds like Cheech Marin.
I swear this book is speaking with a French accent. France=Romance after all.
@theshauncannon: Yep, it was [Wesley] Blake & [Buddy] Murphy as the NXT team. He was way off remembering Hawkins.
Also, Matt Cardona is in Impact now (having never signed with AEW), Nick Aldis is still NWA World Heavyweight Champion (Powerrr is set to come back soon), and Idol and Koloff have at least appeared on Powerrr previously. Billy Corgan's NWA is still chugging along.
The banners in that House of Hardcore arena are actual banners that have (likely still) hang in the former ECW Arena. Great recreations of them. The arenas overall in this game look the best to me. Some of the wrestler likenesses here are better than others.
This was great and reminded me of the Puroresu Party stream that Alex, Austin, and Vinny did in May 2016. I'm watching that back, and that is the origin of the bear-mask, tuxedo-waering create-a-wrestler briefly seen on Alex's cartridge on this stream. Big goofy dog attending a wedding that may also be a secret agent. Good times!
I still haven't seen the Mortal Kombat movie in full, so for now my favorite video game movie is Detective Pikachu (whereas my favorite movie about video games remains Wreck-it Ralph, followed closely by its sequel). Agreed with Jeff's point about movie adaptations where their elements are so heavily borrowed from movies already, adapting these heavily cinematic games into movies leads to these elements being heavily recycled. Exactly how I felt when I recently watched the most recent Tomb Raider movie (inspired by the recent Tomb Raider games).
