but it's also not a big departure from previous ownership.

I don't know, seems like a much more insidious departure. Reading their game plan is smartly strategic, but they should probably get rid of subscriptions and just go full ads on ads. Subs are just free money for them though, so that won't happen.

Bah! I don't buy into any of your insinuations about what Red Venture really intends as a Corp. with it's (not so) covert desire to make money..

Though I have taken to barricading my bedroom door at night, lest R.V send one of it's acolytes to pour molten lead down my ear whilst I sleep.

Naw! They wouldn't do that, I am a subscriber! And in the meantime I am learning all I need to know about Red Ventures (and their ilk), buy by playing the Ascent.

I'm safe,

for now...

I agree with most of the analysis by the previous posters. What might be also interesting is how much of a product will it be to create it own niche as being desirable, perhaps even outright profitable.

Though I may give up my own reservation, because what I really want down the road from life is a graphics card with ray tracing rather then this expensive machine, I am still drawn to the Steam Deck as a back-up, at least of sorts.

I played the first Axiom Verge. To tell the truth, I consulted a guide a couple of times because I had not played too many A.V. like games before, and it helped me understanding the glitch stuff and how to find things. Anyway the first Axiom Verge I found fun with some nuance.

So I am interested in the second Axiom Verge, though it can wait a little.

One thing I said in QL chat that drew some responses that surprised me I will expand on. I found the music track a bit too demanding, and yes I would turn it down. That doesn't mean turn it off. But rather so it doesn't compete, but accentuates the game. I just did that with another game I just finished, in one part where the music was pretty cool (techno) but was beginning to repeat itself out of it's welcome.

I swear the best 'music' accompanied a game was as I remember, the 2 or 3 note Metal Drone of Doom 3. It fit it so well, soundscape really, I kept that at volume.

I just finished Ion Fury, and I'm free, I am FREE!

What a long game for some reason. It's is actually a very decent effort, built on the 3 D Realm's Engine, jacked up to 11. Ion Fury is based on a lady protagonist who rips out a few bad words, but in the main constrains herself to mild satire and observation. The enemy classes are fine and so are the weapons. The gameplay is well, pretty good. I just felt it treaded water a bit much towards the end, but not to the point I would say ef it. Having finished it, I didn't feel my time was wasted. I took a few more screen shots, left Shelley (the protagonist) with her well deserved beer at the bar (where she had started the game) and went to download Ascent.

One thing I always enjoyed was the lighting and graphics. It was a joy to play, that way. How light from a light source would look almost drawn in, and lots of other effects. That never got old.

Hell, 3000 thousand years ago at a company called Gamespot, Matt did a show called 'Rorie's Round-up'. that I have definite remembrance of. (Or maybe Rodeo?)

Now I understand he currently has a decent pc and a nice monitor, Matt once again could do a show called Quicklooks, Rorie's Round-up, once again covering some of those games, of all genres, I see at Steam all the effing time.

And, As I do remember, it was what he was doing the earlier part of the pandemic, and to good effect. He of course doesn't have to stay just to pc, but I think it all constitutes valid and rich source to mine.

But I do know he has his other responsibilities, also.

I like doing galaxies. There is a large assortment of space structures from Hubble and such available, and will even come in packs.

Loosing that toe sucks. I hope it doesn't throw off your balance much, or that relearning is a thing, or that beyond loosing it, it doesn't affect your balance or gait much.

I wish you the best! It sounds like you have a row to hoe...

@junkerman You are doing exactly what I have been toying with the past 6 months. My inclination would be to go for the better console(s), only because I am a firm believer in headroom, even if I do not immediately need it. But I have become next to disillusioned to obtaining a good pc video card without being played for money, besides the principle of it.

I hope it works out for you.

I haven't yet, I'm stuck in Ion Fury purgatory. I do like Ion Fury but it seems like I have been playing it for a while. Pretty sure I am near the end...

Anyways, I saw Jeff playing Ascent, and checked it out for myself on Steam. I'm eventually am going to buy it, some word of bugs and such, but mostly for co-op. Otherwise people seem to really like it. Good to know about the entry level, that it really breaks out.

Just to mention the game Jeff mentioned, Brigador, is on sale and I did get that one.
