Games I've Beaten

People like to make fun of me for owning so many games that I've never played or only played for a few hours, but I've racked my brain and I'm able to come up with at least 100 games that I've actually beaten.

Just like books and movies, certain games can really have an impact on your life, and having that experience in common with someone can be really meaningful.

List items

  • I played this on emulator. What a phenomenal RPG concept. You could really do a lot more with it (the level design is a little bit uninspired at times). I'd like to see an HD remake/sequel/reinvention.

  • I'm pretty sure I borrowed this from Matt and beat it. I remember plotting some nasty Dual Strikes.

Collected all the Zoni and defeated Lord Vorselon -- quite a challenge actually. This game is more combat intensive than I expected, but I'm new to the series. Don't have time to go for 100% completion.

Completed everything except for the master thief speed runs. Excellent characters and storytelling in this game.

Fantastic game. Recommended for people of all ages. I love how it looks like a cartoon.

100% completed on the easiest difficulty (3rd ending for Momohime and Kisuke). I love the painterly visuals; similar to Okami, it feels like you're playing a living sumi-e painting. Once I mastered the combat I really fell in love with this game.

Excellent atmospheric platformer-puzzler that's surprisingly graphic in a fun way. You'll definitely die more than a few times on your adventure. Worth playing all the way through.

  • Played through this with Jeremy. Classic beat-em-up with great humor. The pooping animals are hilarious.

  • Played through most of this with Jeremy. Great HD 2D visuals with some fun puzzle elements, and cool effects such as repelling magnetic goo. Your goal is to rescue all the workers, so it's more adventure and solving puzzles than fast action.

  • Bright, colorful, happy, fun game. Only played through once. I think you're supposed to play through several times in order to collect all the loco roco.

  • Simple and fun 2D side-scrolling RTS game. I'm pretty new to RTS games, so this was a great entry level game for me. Played through all 3 campaigns and enjoyed every minute of it.

  • Short and simple RPG, but I loved it. What can I say, Tim Schaffer and Double Fine really know how to make lovable games. The brother-sister rivalry is adorable -- family picks on each other, but always sticks up for each other. And c'mon, you don Halloween costumes, then transform into the real thing when you enter battle!

One of the best games I've ever played; I think I even like it more than Ocarina of Time. The swordplay elements are pretty cool. Running up walls is fun. The dungeons are great. But more importantly, this is the most well-crafted story I've ever seen in a Zelda game. The characters are lovable, and for once you feel a strong bond between Zelda and Link. And oh my, what a phenomenal ending; make sure you play it all the way through to the end. I should really go back and finish collecting all the heart pieces.

    Notable annoyances:

    - The biggest problem is that text isn't skippable!

    - Notifications are only turned off per session. For example, whenever you turn the game on, you'll get interrupted whenever you collect a bug or treasure of that type for the first time. Very annoying!

    - Buying potions, upgrading potions, buying items, upgrading items all become a time-consuming frustration because you have to sift through a wall of text every single time! At least make the text skippable!

    - Every time you fall off the island, guess what happens? You have to go through a wall of text, and watch an animation. Jesus Christ make that shit skippable!

    - Guess what happens when you press the A button to dash and a person is nearby? You accidentally speak to the person, and you guessed it, the fucking walls of text aren't skippable! Really, the button we're pressing most often also has to be used for talking to people?

    - Some minigames, such as on Fun Fun Island, are fairly challenging and take several tries. Guess what happens when you want to try again? You have to patiently sit through the same walls of text, select that you want to play again, and watch the intro animation every single fucking time! You seriously couldn't implement a retry option? What the fuck were you thinking?!

Nintendo, please make the text skippable next time, and don't treat gamers like they're stupid. Interrupting the flow of the game gets really frustrating after a while.
