I've been coming here almost every day since around January 2009. Had just gotten back into games after being "responsible" for for about ten years. Had a rough patch in my life. Got divorced around that time and was in a transitional period. The personalities on this site felt comfortable to me, reminded me of people I would hang out with IRL. I am close in age to the OG's. Older than Vinny, younger than Jeff I think.
In 2013 the news of Ryan's passing hit me in a way that was completely foreign and unexpected. I never knew him, but after listening to the podcast for hours every week along with the numerous quick looks, I felt like I had lost a friend.
I've watched as people came and went from GB over the years, and I've enjoyed all of them. I was never happy to see anyone leave, but understood that folks move on. It was always comforting to know that the founding members seemed like they would always be around.
This is a long winded way to say that the news of Brad, Vinny, and Alex leaving also hit me in an unexpected but Kind of familiar way, like the news of Ryan. I found myself not being able to sleep last night and had this feeling of melancholy. First thing that came to mind was I was sad that the guys are leaving. But People moving on to new things shouldn't be a sad thing. Thinking more closely, I think it has more to do with the passage of time. Time moves on, we get older, we move on to new things, and we can't go back to the early days.
I know I've never met you guys, but I feel like I've gotten to know you over the years and will miss your smiling faces here at GB. I wish you all the best of luck in wherever life takes you next.
And I'll still be checking in to see what Jeff has planned.
And to check out the "This day in Giant Bomb history" videos
I've never completed a Dontnod game, but since I live in Juneau Alaska, I may try to finish this one if just for the novelty of playing a game that set in my hometown. I'm curious if there is any actual landmarks, like the glacier in the game.
I think I heard that the observatory due to some suspected Chinese spying on an Air Force base that is located within visual range of the observatory. Something like some surveilance equipment was found near the observatory pointed in the direction of the AF base.
actually that was the speculation, but then reports came out about a janitor with child porn on his laptop and it was connected to the wifi of the observatory
Also anyone interested in aliens and the government should watch a documentary called "Bob Lazar, UFO's andArea 51" or something along those lines.
I don't think I've ever heard Ethanol pronounced that way in my life. I guess I can see how someone would say it that way if you are thinking of the word Ether. That totally threw me off, I had no idea what he was saying at first. I thought Ubisoft made up a word for a min..
