I can't help but seeing this as a sign of E3 slowly dying and that makes me kind of sad. Part of me misses that once a year gaming event that E3 used to be but with both Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo and now EA having their own conferences outside of E3 it would have to change in some way to still be relevant. I know that both Microsoft and Sony still have their E3 conferences, but they are obviously going to spread out their announcements across their multiple yearly conferences so you won't get that one conference that would just be crazy reveal after crazy reveal.
I bought Bloodborne on a PSN sale some weeks ago and I have been playing it from time to time, actually I think I'm really close to beating it, but I think I am done with Bloodborne or any other souls game for that matter.
I have never played a souls game before so I wanted to give them an honest chance and I think I have done just that, I must be somewhere between the 30-40 hour mark on Bloodborne, but it is just not grabbing me. I think the cryptic and very minimalistic approach to storytelling, which is almost no story at all, is demotivating and the constant grind to get more and more souls so you can upgrade your character is getting super repetitive. It has gotten to the point where I just don't care about it any more so I think I'm finally done with the game. I might youtube some of the endings but I have seen what the souls games had to offer and I can safely say that they ain't for me.
I also realize that the reasons I don't like the games is the same reason that so many people LOVE these games and that's completely okay. They are just not made for me.
Also hearing that this DLC has a lot of fights with other hunters sounds super off-putting since that was easily one of my top 3 least favorite things about the main game.
Still going to play this on PS4 and probably still going to have a great time just like I did with The Witcher 3, which is my favorite game this year and I played that on PS4. So I think I'm going to be okay.
I'm probably one of the few people that really liked the combat of the previous Tomb Raider game, so it really didn't bother me that much that there wasn't that much actual tomb raiding in it. I also love the Uncharted games and if it came down to it I would still choose the Tomb Raider combat over Uncharted. Though Uncharted is still the overall better series in my opinion.
But I never get the people that complain about the Tomb Raider (the reboot obviously) shooting being unprecise and floaty. I was constantly able to pull of very precise shots in the middle of intense combat situations. I never really felt frustrated about that aspect of the game. If I wanted to just wound a guy so I could finish him with a close combat kill, I would shoot him in the leg and move in for the kill. If I just wanted go for the headshot I would shoot him in the head. 99 times out of a 100 I would hit. The few times I did miss was because I was being sloppy with the aiming or the enemy managed to avoid it at the last second. It was never the controls' fault. It was player fault in my experience when I didn't hit what I wanted to hit.
I would even go as far as to say that Tomb Raider (2013) has the best third person shooting played with a controller. The all time best third person shooting is still Max Payne 1 and 2 on the PC played with mouse and keyboard. But when it comes to third person shooters played with a controller the Tomb Raider reboot is the king of last generation and I stand by that.
Filthy self promotion coming through. Don't tell me I didn't warn you. My review of Tomb Raider (2013) goes a little further to explain why I love the game so much: Tomb Raider review right here
It's super annoying seeing all the people whining for more LiS. They have already said they are going to continue playing it so let them play something else for a while. I was one of the people who really wanted to see them play Phantasmagoria 2 so I can't wait to see this. Besides you are still getting a full playthrough of LiS but the are probably never going to play more of this, sadly, so you still get everything you want.
