2020 Games

The year of gaming (i.e. the year of covid). I bought a PS4 at the start of the panic, as I was afraid I'd die of boredom. Ended up just getting two games for that though. Nonetheless, I played way more games than usual (14! but only 3 came out in 2020).

I'd recommend 1-4 for sure, and 5-8 maybe. 9 and below are safe to pass on.

List items

  • (PC)

This kept me motivated in learning a new instrument as it was continuously fun without the hassle of (1) searching for tabs for songs of your skill level, (2) reading tabs, and (3) trying to find the fun in playing some random lame song you found just cause you can somewhat decipher the tabs.

Beautiful game from its environment, soundtrack, and (most importantly) waifus. Lot of negative opinions out there on it, but majority of that is coming from the people that are going into this game trying to maximize their stats ("har har big number go brrrrrrr") when there is no reward in doing so. If you just want to explore a beautiful world with some waifus (and husbandos!), backed by a great soundtrack and a solid gameplay loop, this is worth trying! I wouldn't let the gacha part of it deter you. This definitely isn't pay to win unless you're part of that big number mindset and find beating bosses (there is no PvP) as quick as possible required for "winning". You get a fair share of characters for free. The only dangerous well to fall down is if you have your eyes set on a specific 5-star (rare) character. The main storyline will take maybe around 60 casual hours, and more content is being added monthly to expand on it.

  • (PC) Remaster

Continuing with the RE marathon that I started last year with RE2 and RE7, next on my list was RE0. I remember playing a bit of this as a kid on my GCN, but didn't get far at the time. This game ranks third for me. I loved the train stage, the character switching, and more importantly: Rebecca is best RE waifu.

After hearing so many people call this game out as one of the best single-player FPS experiences, I had to try it out. It did not disappoint. Titanfall 2 stands well above everything else in that regard. If I had to nitpick, I'd say the bits where you had to pilot the mech where weak in comparison to the regular foot soldier gameplay.

  • (PC) Remake [2020]

I didn't play the original version, so while I can't relate to the complaints longtime fans have, I can get where they are coming from. That being said, I didn't mind the movie-like experience the remake offered. Could it have been better? Probably. But I don't really know what I'm missing out on so, blissful ignorance wins?

  • (PC) Remaster

Went back to the original (well... the remaster of it) that started it all! Some of the puzzles pissed me off, but overall, enjoyable experience. I'll just throw my personal RE ranking here: RE2, RE7, RE0, RE3, RE1, RE5, RE6 (RE4 I played wayyyyy back and don't recall enough to figure out where it places).

  • (PS4)

Bought a PS4 for this, and... probably wasn't worth it. Playing through P5 once more, I realized the issues with the pacing. I didn't finish my playthrough of P5R yet, but hopefully I get back into the mood to play more.

  • (PC) [2020]

It was good and made enough improvements to the previous iteration, but I kind of got worn out quicker with this one. There was more story elements, but who cares for that in DOOM? Could have gone without to be more streamlined.

  • (PS4)

Lame weapon selection... no advantages over demon/dark souls or even sekiro.

  • (PC)

Only managed to play through it thanks to turbo making the grind somewhat bearable. Plus I made a derpy team with Likitung, Slowpoke, Quagsire, Ditto, Sunflora, Togepi, and Gengar (subbed him in for Ditto after the first half since Ditto was too weak... sorry Ditto).

  • (PC)

    Decent game

  • (PC)

It was scary and stressful for the first 5 hours, which made it a unique experience. But once you figure out how the alien works, the scare factor goes away. The gameplay otherwise gets repetitive, with tasks particularly in the latter parts being "go here press X, then go back to where you started press X, then go back again and press X". The worst though were the parts where you are in a space suit and they have you cross some terrain/bridge at a snail's pace, just holding down "w" the entire time.

Eh. Kinda mindless shooting. Probably fun to play with a friend, but I have none that play games with me.

Saved the worst RE for last in my run. I just rushed through it as fast as I could to get it over with.
