@onekillwonder_: THIS GAME THOUGH! I played it for the first time as a demo on a PS1 disk that came with a magazine I bought one day with my allowance when I was 7 (It also included a demo of Cool Boarders 3). I had completely forgotten the title of it until I saw this on the community highlights. It's been bugging me for 14 years. Thank you so much for this, truly. I can't wait to track it down and finally play the full game.

Just about 15 hours, and then I spent about twice that time sitting completely still while I thought about the ending.

Kanji's This'll Hurt attack really rustles my jimmies. I main Yosuke and I'm trying to work my way through the Arcade mode on Hell difficulty. Needless to say, it's incredibly frustrating being stuck on the second match. Kanji is a grappler, which is fine for anyone that can stay away from him but Yosuke doesn't have a whole lot of ranged attacks.

I've had my ass handed to me by Mr. Tatsumi 10 times in the past half hour and EVERY TIME he KO's me it's with This'll Hurt.

Why I hate it:

1. Yosuke's kinda squishy so it deals a solid 1/3 of my health bar in damage.

2. It is a grab which makes it much harder to block.

3. It only uses TWENTY-FIVE SP. At a full charge he can (and has) use in 3-4 times in a row.

I know I'm probably complaining about nothing, and maybe I'm just not ready for Hell difficulty. But the only way I'm going to get better is by playing on the harder modes.

Does anyone else have any attacks that you absolutely hate?

Thanks for the tips! As far as familiars go I haven't delved into that system too much yet. I've chosen different familiars for each character so that I have at least one each that is proficient in each type of attack (Ex: Mite for physical, Sprite for water etc.) I think I'll try @harlechquinn's tip and see if that helps me out.

Okay, This game is too good to be broken in this way. My party is as follows:

Oliver lv 36

Esther lv 35

Swaine lv 33

I've just gotten to the inevitable point in any JRPG when things just get way fucking harder for what seems like no reason. I'm used to it. The thing about Ni No Kuni is the world is huge and nonlinear in a lot of great ways. And one very bad way. My current objective is to get the three stones for Oliver's flashy new wand. The first two stones were laughable in their difficulty to obtain.

But now I'm on the third one, the one in the Glittering Grotto. When I started dying frequently I figured that last place the story brought me to (Autumnia) would be the best place to grind. But the creatures all run away from me and when I do get a chance to fight them they hardly do anything for me EXP wise. The creatures of Autumnia are two weak and the ones near and in the Glittering Grotto are ridiculously strong. There's got to be some middle ground but I don't know where.

TL;DR- Where can a mid 30 to low 40 lv party go to grind in this game?

I'm sure this is a completely inaccurate theory because I don't think it was a question Atlus really expected anyone to ask (or maybe they did and left us without an answer just for fun), but it's a theory nonetheless. I always thought that the bodies got hung up on antennas and power lines because, in a largely one to two story town like Inaba, those are some of the highest structures. I figured that the fog settles in from the TV world, which I believe is located somewhere above the earth on another plane. The only evidence I have to support that is that the fight against Ameno-Sagiri takes place on a clear floor with a birds eye view of Inaba underneath. If the fog settles down out of the sky from the TV world, carrying the body with it, it makes sense for it to catch on the first thing it comes in contact with. Pretty much everyone has a TV, and so there are a lot of antennas to catch on, but the odds are still pretty slim that they would always find their mark. Anyway, that's all I got, but it's a good enough explanation for me.

@FluxWaveZ: I based that entirely around Brutal Impact (Normal Labrys' version) having a 2 second charge time. I probably should have taken her other moves into account. I wouldn't call her super fast, but you're right, she's definitely not slow. I guess I oughtta do some editing.

I know Hokucho found his main, but maybe this will help others coming in looking for theirs.

I have many many hours logged in Persona 4 and have hated Yosuke for every minute of every hour. That being said, he is my favorite fighter to play in P4A. I played through his story because I wanted 100% completion and immediately dug his play style. I main Yosuke, sub Akihiko. I've been told that's a bad call because they're both (mostly) close range, and although deep down I know they're right when they say that, I just can't help myself.

It really comes down to what you prefer. I really like the speed that Yosuke and Akihiko have. If you're good (I'm not) you can get in and get out without you're opponent really knowing what has happened (This is more Yosuke than Akihiko, he's fast, but he's not THAT fast).

If you're more in to ranged combat you might take a look at Naoto, Aigis, Yukiko, and to some extent Teddie

If you want someone who is fast but also really powerful, Mitsuru, Charlie, Chie, Labrys, and Shadow Labyrs are your best bets.

If you're just looking to beat the hell out of people and don't care that your character moves like he's wearing Goku's weighted training clothing, Kanji is your character for slow, brutal justice.

From my experience, Elizabeth is just a monster. If you know how to use her well, no one's going to stand a chance against you.

All of this stuff was purely from my perspective and the way I've played. It's possible that I've been doing it completely wrong (I've only had the game for a couple of weeks after all). Anyway, hope this helps someone along the way. Jeff talks briefly about some play styles in the Quick Look they have here on the site if you'd rather catch some info from there and pretend that silky baritone is directed specifically at you.
