The Best, The Bester & The Bestest

2009 was a year to make 2008 look slightly empty, roll on 2010 and the rise of the machines!

List items

  • Stunning. A time-consuming strategy game that somehow conveys a deep, rich historical setting that appeals to the masses. Be it with the slick interface of the campaign mode, the easy access versus online mode, or the story-driven campaign, you'll find many ways to not only battle, but lie, backstab, steal, negotiate, deligate, divide but all to ultimately serve the purpose of your nation's properity.

No game of its kind has ever been so involving and worth your time and money. The setting, the delivery, the graphics set the tone for a classic that is responsible for millions of hours of chaos involving blokes on a field with muskets. Into the breach, men!

  • Perks, killstreaks, deathstreaks, attachments, camping, spamming, glitching, scavenging, sneaking, sniping, knifing and getting blown up by cars. This game executes everything that war isn't perfectly. Who needs realism when you have akimbo 1887's?

  • The first one struck a chord with me. What can I say, other than: "buy it, its awesome".

  • A little soon for a sequel. No matter, this installment adds enough to justify a new purchase (though it may divide the community significantly).

  • Tight RPGTS single player campaign using a fantastic license to great effect. Shame the controls could not be altered and the online is WAAAAGH.

  • Its Sims # 3. Its bigger, badder, and completely changes the gameplay structure. No more useless chores getting in the way of your Sims' goals!

One thing is certain, this game will continue to sell a tonne for the coming years (and expansion packs).

  • A decent RPG with real choices affecting your game and the relationships with the characters around you. Pleanty to do. Holds off the way until Mass Effect 2 effectively. Also nudity.

  • Fifa somehow manages to get better every year while PES inverts on its former glory with increasingly more boring interations.

Though not yet the perfect football game, you'll love what EA did with the place since you left it in 2008.

  • A neat little political sim made better by your imagination in how you can mess with, or work your people. El Presidente is most pleased.

  • A comprehensive successor to the already near perfect FM09. More stats and players, updated squads, Man City nerfed, hours lost in gaming trance.
