Price is a major issue, but my bandwidth limits don't allow me to go crazy with digital, and my download speed from the US is typically under 500k so it can take quite a while.

I'm excited to play some of those games, when they come out on PC !

Times are tough, and money matters far more for me today then it did 7 years ago. Nothing in that presentation convinced me that "next gen" is worth investing in a $700-$1000 dollar console, and yes, that number is a good reflection of the launch price in Aus. I'd much rather spend that money upgrading my PC then fork over money for a console that requires a subscription to play a F2P game that I can already play for free, on PC. Between XBL & the red ring of death I have spent more on X360's in the last 6 years then I have upgrading said PC, and when you throw in the discrepancy between PC & console game prices in Aus that number just gets even higher.

I went with Storm, was not exactly fun until level 16 where I picked up gear that allowed me to use lvl 20 ability's like Lightning storm, Lightning Column & unlocked Chain Lightning. At that point things got a lot better. Storm has AOE to burn, but it's a bit boring getting her to that point.

Finished the campaign last night (lvl25), but only had 1 other player to take down Doom with, must have died 30 odd times in that fight. The poor DD fighting with me got ass whooped every time he pushed into melee range, and by the time we were half way through the second phase I just gave up on trying to kite & went "full retard". Shaved a good 15 minutes off the fight though, so well worth it, but next time it's a full group or I'm GTFO.

I'm not sure I'll keep playing at this point. I'd like to play either Thor or Hulk, but frankly the character drop rates don't sound all that good, and I don't see a lot of replay potential, so spending money at this point seams like a waste. Maybe if things were a little cheaper, but 12 bucks for Thor & another 13 if I want a different costume. It's not exactly bad by F2P standards, but the game feels less solid then I thought it would.

They lose money on the hardware, it's heavily subsidised, and it takes years to build an install base large enough to make that money back. I find it hard to believe that what you are suggesting would be possible in the current environment, especially given the tight margins on AAA games. You also need to remember that it takes quite a while for developers to get up to speed with the new dev kits & explore the boundaries of the new hardware.

Both PS4 & Xbox One are dead to me at this stage. The price gap between console & PC in Aus is pretty staggering and with the way things are going I can see prices going up again, maybe not at launch, but soon after. With RRP at $109 today and the majority of local game retailers selling at 85-99+ bucks I just can't afford to be a console gamer anymore, especially when I can get 45/50 dollar launch prices with PC titles, and even cheaper prices if I wait.

With these new changes there's no real reason to buy a console anymore. PC's tech has stabilised so there's no longer the issue of an 18 month gap between major hardware upgrades. I can get 5 years out of a modern PC now, so why go console ? All of the DRM I have been avoiding with consoles up till now has finally arrived, so why should I pay more for a less powerful and flexible system that has higher game prices if it's simply a carbon copy of what I already have ?

It sucks, I wanted to be excited, I wanted to surprised, but if this is the direction they want to go then it's time for me to part ways with consoles.

It's mostly due to suppliers demanding more for their goods out side of the states. There are huge mark ups on many (but not all) items coming into Oz & most people these days have given up on brick & mortar stores in favour of the net. When you consider how massive the savings can be it just doesn't make sense to do anything else any more, and for that reason, regardless of weather or not it's the supplier or the retailer, it just ends up hurting local business by turning shoppers away in disgust.

RRP is around $109 for console games in Oz. Tax, shipping & wages account for very little of that massive price gap. Anything over $80 can't be justified & frankly speaking most retailers should be able to hit low 70's if they tried, but most don't & that's why people have just given up on them.

If I have to buy locally I'll usually go with the PC title, it's typically 1/2 or 2/3 the price of a console game.

And if you want to understand where the MRM or MRA's are comming from you should perhaps look at this, yes it's a whopping hour in length, but it's well worth your time if you are intrested, and maybe even if you're not.
